Seems BigBobs gripes have been heard. As well as a few million other Texans...

lawmakers approved more than $200 million so DPS can hire more than 760 new employees and fund two new license centers

DPS gets $200 million infusion

It seems their favorite saying is, “Sit down, shut up and take a number”. In our Lubbock area, I’ve heard of people waiting three hrs WITH an appointment! I finally made it to the front of the line and told the person that they didn’t look like a sloth (for you Zootopia fans). She actually laughed and said that’s what her husband sometimes says. There are good people out there within the system but the job seems to breed this mentality. I get to do it online now for awhile thank goodness.

And some people want to turn medicine over to these people.

Killing the Driver Responsibility Program will make it more fun.

Unless they expand the hours and open several more facilities they are just wasting our money. I have not been in one of the mega centers and don't plan to. Maybe I don't know enough about the issues but it sounds like a capacity issue to me. If they have unstaffed lanes within the mega centers then yes hiring people to staff those lanes would help.

From what I saw quite a few years ago here in McKinney was basically people standing around not doing anything - talking on the phone, etc. I went three times to get a motorcycle endorsement. The last time I got there at 7:00 am and was third in line, and the guy next to me who was fourth had been there three times as well. I got in, took the test and 45 minutes later walked out. The guy next to me was still in line. I wrote a letter to the district officer, and signed it with my academic title - Dr. Not knowing I was not a real Dr. who does surgery, he probably felt he should call me back in person. Said he knew there was a problem, etc., but nothing has changed some 10 years later. In fact it is most likely worse. There has got to be a better way. Stay tuned to see if throwing more money at it solves the problem. I personally feel they should open more than one office in a city depending on the population of it. Spread the staff and resources around to where it is needed including after hour and weekend openings.

Correct me if I am wrong but seems like a few years ago they closed a bunch of smaller centers and went to Mega centers as a cost cutting move.

When my wife and I went a couple of weeks ago in Athens the line was out the door. There were 3 people working and they were alternating breaks. It only took 3 hours but it was fun watching the redneck idiots throw fits about having to have their birth certificates.
