I want to be able to download Lowrance's Free "Enhanced Lake Maps". Do I need to purchase either the "Fishing Hot Spots Elite" or the "Map Create 6.2" software to use the Enhanced Maps? Will be using in LMS480DF.
I appreciate ya'alls help.

Jeff,
I download them on to my MMC card and they just run seamlessly with the map. I don't know about the Elite's if they are writeover protected you wouldn't be able to load the enhanced maps on to the card.

You don't need to buy anything, just download the map onto a blank MMC card and stick it in your unit. The GPS will pick it up automatically.

you will need the LEI card reader/writer to get the info from the web to the MMC/SD card.

I'm new to this to and old at that. I bought a Belkin card reader to download with and an MMC card. I hookup the reader to the computer and insert the card and download streight from the site. Only takes a few secound's per lake, easy. The free lake's site from Lowrance are just that Free. A 64 mb is plenty big enough for a card. You can use the MMC or SD card's. People I talk to prefer the MMC.

Any reader/writer that will work with an MMC or SD card will work. You might want to download to your hard drive, then transfer to your card so you'll have a backup if worse comes to worse.

Bassmaster, from looking at the manual for the X-15, I think it should work the same for you.

Yes this will work in the X15. I have the MMC chip in my X15 and also the Navonics chip so I have to tell the unit which chip to read.
