I hate myself for even thinking about it.. lol.. but.... how bad is Port A going to be for offshore fishing that weekend? Anyone have experience down there that holiday?

I have not had my boat on the water yet... my choice is Lake Buchanan, or Port A. I opt for the coast heh....but, I expect it is a madhouse.

Also, with Snapper season closed, trying to plan what I would target. I assume we can still go outside the 9-miles and catch Vermilion Snapper, just have to throw the Red's back. Thoughts?

Thanks guys

I never let that stop me; it's a big water system. There are going to be alot of people in town and on the beaches, but there is a lot more offshore water than the bays (where I fish).

One 10-pounder is better than ten 1-pounders; but 100 1-pounders is ok too!

I was there 2 weekends ago and it was really crowded then. Every close shore rig had 3 to 6 boats fishing it. Labor day weekend will be a zoo. That being said, just expect the crowds and live with it. There are always places to find fish in the gulf of Mexico.

offshore is no problem.. tons of water to spread out into. You could also target kings and tarpon

Alrighty. If the boat is ready, I may just haul her to the coast wink

Thanks guys

I am hoping to find a nice CG person to do a full inspection for me while I am down there.

OP I agree the rigs will be packed. Will all the boats trolling around the rigs could have the kings stirred up, deep and pretty spooked. If you haven't already I recommend getting one of Rik Jacobsen's books or the card. You will then have coords for spots to fish away from the rigs that will be less crowded. Money well spent!

Oh, I have thousands of spots on my maps... I am more concerned with the ramps than with fishing spots heh. First time out with this boat, don't want to be rushed. If we go, may get there really early to get in before the crowd of late sleepers wink

Figured you had that covered. thumb

I hear ya. Earlier the better. Launching for the first time in the dark may not be ideal but If you wait too late it may be hard to find a parking spot after you launch.

Well, still debating going out. My spots are just that, "spots" no telling if they are good or bad lol.. but, do not want to go out alone, and since this is my first outing, asking my buddy to go will turn into fishing and fishing and fishing.. which I am all for.. heh.. but, I kinda want to look over the entire boat a bit while I get her wet, then do some drone footage, pictures, etc.. and just shake her down a little, learn a little about her, then fish :P

The tough part is... don't have any boat people around me.. just fishing people.. and that makes for a long time of getting it ready for "them" to fish :P...

I think that goes for lots of spots. Whether they're holding biting fish when you get there is a whole nother story.

I wouldn't go alone either. I think it's a little too far out to tell but the long range forecast is calling for 2'-2.5' swells at 5-6 sec which isn't bad. Again I think that's basically a guess at this point.

Hard to say. High school football starts up Friday and dove season for respected zones on Sunday.

Aaahh Granger Lake.. I love fishing for whites off the bank on Willis Creek up there.

I was able to swap out ALL the parts for the brakes this weekend, but got pulled away working on the a/c for my workshop.. heh. I still have to bleed the brakes, but that should not take long as I bought a vacuum brake bleeder from HF. Plan to do that tonight or tomorrow night, or Friday morning.. hoping to go down to the coast for the day, at least, and fish close in to see how she does. It is a long drive, but....gotta do what we gotta do to get her wet wink

Would be nice if I knew more boating people closer to Bastrop/Cedar Creek. My buddies live in Round Rock, so they are not inclined to drive to my house in Cedar Creek to help with stuff...makes the repairs go slower heh. No big deal.....just more fun with company.

Have not had a good dove lease in years. I could hunt them at my ranch, but would drive off the deer and Axis :P

I’ll be launching out of con brown harbor Friday Saturday Sunday, if you want a buddy boat you can team up with us. I’ll be running out 30-35 miles each day though, leaving jetties at first light.

Oh, wow.. that would be cool. I will not know till Friday morning if I will be at Port A, but I am planning to get there before sunrise at least 1 day if the trailer test goes well Friday morning. (I cannot test it till then).

I'll pm you my cell # just in case I can make it.

I will also be the guy hauling the Grady with the red Ford F-150 wink

If we make it out, I may head out but want to spend time at the jetties till I know how the boat is handling the water. You could head on out and we will/can meet back up if we decide to take her out that far, but I would also love to check the vhf and also know there is someone expecting to answer lol.

Thanks!

Russ

That hurricane is supposed to hit Florida Monday .... I hope it doesn't storm on the coast.
