Hey guys i'm running into an issue with my braid fraying/breaking lately. I have an Abu Revo Rocket paired up with a 7' Heavy Action Duckett Ghost and 50 lb power pro for flipping heavy cover. I've had this set up for about a year and a half now and this just started happening. This rod has the stainless guides and i'm thinking this is causing it. I've done the q-tip test but none of the fibers are catching on the guides. Could this be a reel issue or have any of you had this issue with the ghost line of rods? Also, the braid on it is the original line I spooled on it a year and a half ago. Does it go bad?

The braid should not go bad. If you have checked all of the rod guides, I would check the reel line guide. If you are fishing a lot of rock or dragging over timber, that will do it also.

The braids coating does wear off. So, while it can last a while, if you fish a lot, a year and a half is a lot of use.

Good point. Every year I strip the braid off and reverse it back on the spool. Lasts twice as long.

If you use tungsten weights that are not polished on the inside or do not have an insert, they will damage your line.....that is if your using tungsten weights.

I do use tungsten weights from time to time, but the weird thing about this situation is it just started out of nowhere. I was actually casting one of my favorite jigs when it just flew off! Not at the knot either. The line broke about midway through the rod. I also broke about a 3 lb fish off and noticed a big fray spot in the line about 5 cranks into the spool.

Sounds like a chipped guide. Take a qtip and run it thru the guides. If it's chipped it'll usually snag the qtip

I bought some bass pro carbonlite rods a few years ago and braid and floro would break on the cast on the first guide above the reel.... Id find my lure with 15-20 yards of line still on it.

I assume as it was come off the reel in a S motion it would hit that guide and break, I wouldnt believe it if you told me that was possible...

I had a terrible time for a few months because of this issue and finally figured it out by taking a reel off one of those rods straight onto a different one with guide inserts (so same line and it wasnt breaking) and casting it the rest of the day during a tourney.

Check out kast king braid it has worked great for me. I’ve used a lot of types of the years. I think I had a bad couple spools of power pro so tried the kast king and it’s working great.

A year and a half is a long time to go for braid to me. Change out the braid and see if that stops it.

You get out of it what you put into it!

This is what I would do if it just started happening.

I think the braid on my frog rod has been on there 3-4 years. No problem yet
