Do you prefer a Low profile Baitcasting reel or a Round Baitcasting reel? Just thought I would see which one was more popular on here...

nothing but low-profile reels for me. I can't stand to use those big round Abu reels. My hands aren't big enough to hold onto to them. Coach

I don't really care. Most of the better performing reels are low profile though, but I use a Calcutta or a 4501 C3 just fine.

I'm new to Baitcasting and it seems like the LP's would be more comfortable than the round ones.

i use the roound profile. the only baitcaster i use is the abu 5000 and the abu 6500. but on the other hand i catfish with them, hybrids or whites with live or dead bait so i am not casting much.

Almost everyone says low profile, but what they fail to realize is that some of the round reels like the Calcutta are actually as low or lower. They just don't look like it because they are round. It's deceiving. That said, round reels like the Calcutta are typically stronger, slightly heavier, BUT more comfortable to hold making them feel smaller and lighter. Most people that say "low profile all the way" have only tried the 5500 to 6500 size Abu reels which are far larger and clunkier in all aspects than say a Calcutta 100TE GT. Grab one of these, throw it on a G-Loomis weightless worm rod and make a few casts. If you don't fall in love immediately, you are far pickier than me. Even then, this reel weighs in at almost 11 oz, but it feels like a 7 oz low profile reel.
That said, most of mine are low profile just because that style is more prolific. Plus, I don't have that kind of dough to continuously drop $330 on a reel like the Calcutta TE-GT. My wife would kill me. If I were single? Sure maybe

It's deceiving You obviously have never picked up a Chronarch 50 MG, (or similar size shimano) or a Revo !!

I own a Revo. I like it a lot. I consider those the new super low profile reels along with the Pflueger Summit and the BPS reels. The 50 MG is an awesome reel, but it isn't any lower than a Calcutta 100. In fact a Calcutta 50 (which I have, and has the same relative line capacity of the 50 MG) is lower and by a lot. Measure it. I know it doesn't look like it, but it is. Most people don't realize that the rod attachment on the round reels is pushed way up in the reel as close to the spool as possible. All a low profile reel is, is longitudinally longer. That extra length makes it look lower, but it isn't.

I love my low profiles (Pixies, Scorpion, Sol, SMAK, Chronarch) but there is something very special about a Conquest 50. That little round reel is a solid eleven on a ten point grinometer...come to think of it, so is the Calcutta DC100.
