Hi ALL:

I moved to Texas about a year ago and I haven't been to Lake Fork in about 25 or more years and when I did it was crappie fishing with my Grandfather.

This Friday I am meeting Slade to fine tune my Humminbirds, but I don't meet him until late afternoon and I am driving in from Weatherford so I am going to make a day of it. I am meeting him at the Lake Fork Fisherman's Cove Marina. Looking a the maps I have bass go back up there to spawn and stay there until early Summer, but I am not sure if they will still be there this time of year.

My questions are:

1. What color lures should I be using (ball park)
2. Should I stick with soft plastics or use crank baits. I have pretty much whatever I need just not sure what they are biting on right now.
3. Should I stick with bass or switch to some other fish in that area.

Now keep in mind that I just traded in my old boat on a new boat so I am still getting used to it. Went from a 17 foot aluminum G3 to a 21 foot Phoenix so a lot of difference there. I know I can go to other parts of the lake, but would kind of like staying in that area if possible.

You'll be right there in William's creek. If you get there early run (assuming you know how to move around on Fork without poking a hole in your new ride) out to the main lake point in front and throw a spook or top water. If you dont know the lake fish around the bridge on hwy 17 close to the ramp. Good creek channel runs close to the right bank just after you go under the bridge. Congrats on the new ride!

First thing I would do is to get a lake chip to show where the running lanes are. Next thing would be to trailer to a Marina that is closer to these lanes and easier to get to them. You are going to want to play with this new rig and punching a hole on it on your first trip is not something you want to do.

I use XD-10 sexy shad and black and blue jigs right now. Bite will be slow but you might catch a good one. Take sunscreen because it’s going to be hot

If you plan on fishing Fork on a regular you need to get a copy of boat lanes. Ask Slade about it. If you get out of the boat lanes make sure you go easy.

First and foremost, Slade is gonna help you a ton!! But, as has been said, I'd immediately go to LF Marina, get the Lance Vick chip, load it, run at medium speed right on his lanes, and idle EVERYWHERE ELSE. Not that any lake is a great lake to take chances, but fork is absolutely not one to trim up and hope!!

No real need to go too far, just fish the points, road beds, and bridges around Williams and Little Mustang. Tons of good spots in those areas.

I agree on the Lance Vick chip. Cheap insurance. Once the top water bite goes away in the morning move out to main lake points and humps. You'll get numbers. Pattern we did last Saturday. Didn't produce anything over 18 inches, but did catch a lot of fish. It's hot as all get out so stay hydrated.

Most likely, Slade will provided you with some boat lanes on lake fork. That marina next to the ramp, has brush under it and has some good fish in it right now

If you look out from the ramp you will see the boat lane buoys. Follow them out to main lake where Williams, Little Mustang and Mustang come together and fish all that area.

I will ask him about the boat lanes for sure when I see him that afternoon. I just want to try and get a decent fish out of there since I am going to be there anyway. My PB is only 3.5 pounds so I might be able to beat that. (I haven't been in places where I can catch large bass. I have caught a 25 pounds King Salmon and a 100 pound Halibut, but nothing really big bass wise "yet")
