Just very professional and well trained. Nice compliment, I'll pass that along to someone who had a lot to do with that.

As a retired college prof for 30 years, I was very involved in the training of teachers. School rankings are often another dog and pony show. Most teachers are very dedicated and try to do their best. Some are more capable than others for sure, but it is extremely difficult to grade them as there are so many opinions about who and what is a good teacher. Most are underpaid and have to jump through multiple hoops not only to get certification but to justify their job as well while teaching. Policemen have to endure the same oversight by those who have never been one. They get tired of criticism and need encouragement and an occasional "atta boy".
Schools should be graded by the parental involvement in the district. I imagine most of the schools that got high grades have an active parent pool. Without question, this is the overall deciding factor in the success of the student and school. It's not about money and social class. It's about parental support and involvement with their kids. The grades are based on STAAR testing. Parental involvement takes all of the onus off the school and teachers. How can you grade a school on parental involvement? Terrible idea. You’re 100% correct DH. Half the parents don’t give one chit about the school except “ the kids are gone and they eat free”. How about when just one campus scores an F and the rest all score A's?
Trust your own instinct. Your mistakes might as well be your own, instead of someone elses.

If parental involvement was involved in the grading, you can bet the parents are going to be more involved one way or the other. What I'm saying is that it is not at all fair to put all the onus on the teachers and school when it can be proven parental involvement is a big factor in success. These absentee parents need to have their feet held to the fire just like the teachers and schools. Put the blame on where the blame should be.

These grades were NOT based on STAAR testing. Less than 50% of elementary students take the STAAR test, but yet elementarys receive a grade? Negative. From what my superintendent explained, or atleast gave his best shot like DerVosch mentioned, these rating come from closing the gap of your lowest students to highest students. Meaning you maintained or improved your smartest kids and closed your bottom students. How they measured that, no one knows. But a state mandated test cannot and will not quanitfy that data.

And yes, ranking parent involvement is a good way to "rank" a school. Highland Park parent involvement is probably really really high. South Oak Cliff parent involvement is probably really really low. Which is a better school to attend for educational purposes?

The elementary, middle, and high school that my kids feed into all got an A. I’m good with that.

Forget scores. We should focus on the important stuff, like my son is starting TB on the varsity football team. It's all about perspective.
