"In 2-3 years the newest reservoir in the state will be about an hour away." Ok, where is the gem being created?
It is going to be called Bois d'Arc Lake and will be just north of Bonham.

With a little extra time, like 15-20 minutes on top of your hour you could be on Fork. Like others have said though you will have good options with Roberts, Texoma and Lavon all within your time window.

It is going to be called Bois d'Arc Lake and will be just north of Bonham. A visitor center in the area has some lake maps availble (linked below). I'm excited to see how it turns out. I haven't fished Bonham yet but I want to start exploring some of those lakes heading out towards Paris. Proposed Lake MapI like Ray Roberts but it can be tough. Lewisville is good but I'm waiting for some of the recreation boaters to hang it up for the season before I start fishing there in the fall.

Ray Roberts is by far my favorite overall.. just not this time of year. Why? Quality of fish is insane, beautiful surroundings, and I can always get away from the pleasure boats. The negative.... probably the lowest number of bass per acre in our area, the ones you catch are good size, its just not a good numbers lake.
Lake Worth is a VERY close second... no other place in the Metromess has Hydrilla, Coon tail, reeds, pads, milfoil and potato grass. You can get up the river and feel like your a hundred miles from the city... gators, deer, and hogs on the banks, just feels prehistoric. If you like fishing docks when the Lake Worth dock bite gets hot you can fish docks all day and not touch em all. Then on the lower end of the lake watching the jets takeoff and land right over the lake from the JRB is always awesome, last night we actually got to witness the jet Lockheed made that can "hover" doing a few blow byes then hover for a few minutes.

From McKinney, Lavon because of convenience. For enjoyment, Texoma. There's a lot to explore there, and the marina people are the nicest on any TX lake. There's also a couple of lakes in the Caddos National Grasslands. The Lew can be a bit frustrating and hard to figure out. Roberts, you've got to take the time to figure out how to move on that lake. See big telephone poles, that means under water timber, so you've go to know where to go. Don't hear much talk about Cooper/Jim Chapman.

I live in Frisco... I'll give you my list:
Ray Roberts Texoma Bonham Lewisville Fork ( about an hour and 15 from McKinney ) Bob Sandlin/ Cypress / Monte Welsh ( in the winter )
if you're willing to drive 2 hours:
Lake O the Pines Palestine Athens Squaw Creek ( great lake in the winter )
then add the soon to be open Bois D Arc ( which will be joining Bonham in a few years )

Some great suggestions! Thanks for taking the time. Excited to start exploring some new water. Holler at me if you’d like to go, I live 20 mins from Mckinney. Tons of good fishing around us!

Bois d’arc will be a watering hole a few years after they start pumping. Unless our rain levels keep up like they have. Just like Cooper.

I drove up to Bonham today and wanted some feedback on the boat ramps. The one south of the dam by the campground seems pretty safe but I’d like to launch a kayak at the ramp on the opposite (north) side of the lake. It’s located on North Ramp Dr. but it’s more isolated. Does anyone have any feedback on whether thieves are a problem at the north ramp? Thanks.

Have a friend who just bought a home on Bonham Lake. Wants to go fishing in my boat as he doesn't have one, yet. Not looking for your fishing spots (unless you are offering) but more on how safe is the lake to run?
Any areas to steer clear of?
Thanks,
