Ray Roberts because it is one of the prettiest and cleanest around, along with having very nice quality of bass. The State Park is top notch as well. Also not much pressure relatively speaking. Also welcome to McKinney I am in Allen next city over.

To get to Texoma under an hour, you have to be really moving and not get pulled over in Howe or Van Alstyne
Lavon for sentimental reasons and it’s easier to figure out than Ray Roberts
I don’t fish Ray Roberts a lot, but I know I’m not the only one that struggles there. It is a beautiful lake though

Where do you live now?
I'll add Crockett to your list of lakes. Small you can fish the entire lake in a day but has some quality fish in it. Lots of grass and lily pads (usually I have not been there i about a year now). I moved farther out and it is not as convenient as it was when I lived in Allen.

Ray Roberts - I can get gas, pick up boat and be on the water in about 45 minutes. Texoma - You can get to Highport Marina in an hour straight down Preston Rd from McKinney. Lake Bonham - It's about 1-1:10 up Hwy 121 Small lake with some good fish. Lavon & Lewisville are within an hour depending on with ramp. I typically avoid during the summer recreation season.
Lake Fork Marina is 75 miles away.

Lewisville is a good fishery with plenty of fish. It’s a great cranking lake.
Roberts is pretty in the southern main lake area around the state park, a treacherous lake east of wolf island where standing timber abounds. Not pretty but big fish live there. Also fishes tougher than probably any other DFW lake on a consistent basis if you don’t live on that lake.
Texoma is 50 minutes from my house in Mckinney, you can fish deep clear water near the dam or dirtier water closer to the red river side but launch accordingly and as someone mentioned it has plenty of smallmouth and largemouth. Fun lake.
Grapevine is another good lake for numbers, not too big.
Joe Pool has lots of fish too and is also on the smaller side.
If you can't find em wind em.

Add 30 minutes and you have some of the best fishing in 2 states!
Get a state park and corps pass and you are just about set!

In 2-3 years the newest reservoir in the state will be about an hour away.

In 2-3 years the newest reservoir in the state will be about an hour away. And they are going to be taking the Fork route with the stocking programs. I can't wait!!!
