I have a friend planning to visit me during Christmas week. I wonder whether fishing guide service will usually be available in that week. If so, what fish species to target during that time period. I have two preferences, striper on lake Texoma or crappie at any lake around Plano. I think the latter is more realistic but decent size striper will sure make impression.

Any advice would be appreciated.

If you haven't already I would post this in the Crappie and sand bass hybrid striper sections. There are a lot of guides that will fix you up ...

The fishing is good for both striper and crappie during that time of year, crappie fishing is usually really good during the winter, that’s assuming the good wintertime lakes like Lavon aren’t 10’ high. I would hazard to say you can find a guide, however, I think your best bet right now would be to hire a guide who works both crappie and sandies/striper, the reason I say this is if the good crappie lakes get flooded out you can always have a fall back on a constant level lake like cedar creek or ray Hubbard. Pm me if you’d like the name and number of a guide who works banks that time of year.

Ya, a guided trip is the best bet (remember to tip well).
While size sells, IMO, big numbers are more fun.
I’d go for the numbers, trophy fish are great but kind of a personal/solitary thing—not much room for “we” in a trophy.
