Found a few holes that produced really well last weekend but haven't been able to get back out.

Wondering do crappie respond to cold fronts similar to bass and scatter after a front or will they tend to hold close and regroup pretty quickly ?

Just trying to figure out if I should be able to go back to the same spots or if I'm going to have to cover alot of water ?

I have had awesome catches behind many cold fronts this season. They were bunched up on tops every time.

SandSpike,
that is encouraging to hear. I personally have never done very well crappie fishing right after a front. Depends on the strength of the front I think as to how many days they have "lockjaw".

Back in early spring I was catching sandies/crappies so fast I could hardly keep 2 poles in the water and the wind stopped blowing from the S and then very very gently started coming out of the N. Bites shut off instantly...after 30 minutes of nothing I reeled 'em up and went to the house.

If you have a boat IMO, you can still find them, just may have to use a graph/finder and look hard. If they're deep on brushpiles, a modest cold front like the one Wednesday shouldn't cause much problems, outside of the wind.

As for land-lubbers like me who have to fish shallower water at marinas/barges, yeah, it scatters them and they slow down.

I caught them in the same place yesterday after the front as I did Monday/Tuesday before.

Jerry,

Thanks for proving my previous thread's point. If you're fishing in deeper water (brushpiles or trees), then a weaker, baroclinic (temp difference) type of front isn't going to have the same impact as less water depth. The advantage of having a boat, no doubt.

Ok guys, thanks for all your responses.

I can't stand it anymore. On the way out the door to test the theory.

Let you know in the morning how it went.

Got on the water at about 5:30 PM. Bite was a little slow at first but as wind died and sun went down it began to turn on about 7:00.

Ended with 20, 13 keepers.

Slowing down and paying attention was definitely the key!

Thanks for the tips guys.

exgolfer,

Anytime. Folks on here are very helpful and nice. We all get MCD (mad crappie disease) from time to time and have weather, presentation, and help questions all the time.

If you ever need some weather advice, i'd be glad to help, as I'm sure all the other crappie good guys on here.
