Will the Lowrance HDS Live units link to the Xi5 trolling motor?

Yes. You will just need the Motorguide Gateway Kit and a NMEA 2000 starter kit if you don't already have a NMEA network setup on your boat.

What is the difference between the gateway kit and the pinpoint gps navigation system?

The gateway kit is the special cable that connects the Xi5 to your NMEA backbone to link with Lowranch graphs. The pinpoint GPS is built into the trolling motor.
