I just purchased a 2019 Tracker Pro Team 175 TXW and it comes with an under powered Minn Kota Edge 45 pound thrust. I am wanting to get opinions. I know, with all of us, more power is almost always best. I am going to replace it and I'm looking at the Minn Kota Maxxum model. If I go with a 55, I can keep the 12V system that is currently installed in the boat. If I get the more expensive 65, I will need to obviously add a battery and a 3 bank charger so the expense is much higher. Does anyone have this boat with a 55 pound thrust trolling motor and if so, is it good enough? Thanks for any feedback.

My opinion the 45 will work just fine 95 percent of time. A 12volt 55 lb thrust is plenty for that light boat.

I have a 1652 weld craft and had the 45lb minn kota c2 and it would push my boat ok if there was no wind. I switched to the 55lb maxxum and it's so much more powerfull and wth the maximizer built in you can dial in that perfect trolling speed and battery last all day

Thanks so much for the responses. Was worried that I would regret trying to save some money but this does look like the way to go.

I have a buddy who did the exact same thing and he went with the 65 lb. (I bought his 45 that came standard). The one thing you can always use is extra trolling motor either power or battery life.

55 would be enough but you might run low on battery power if you fish long days. I'd probably go with the 24v not only for the power but to prolong my fishing days especially if you ever get caught on a 2 day trip without access to charging the batteries in between.

I can't see going from the 45 to a 55 and if you go 24v I would go ahead and get 80 instead of 65......but I like to fish for schooling sand bass and hybrids and don't like the wind blowing me around....

You are on a slippery slope to getting an Ultrex.
I have a Lowe Roughneck 175 and went from a 45lb 12volt to an 80lb 24volt. Big difference, especially with longevity (doesn't feel worn out at the end of the day)
If you don't mind the extra weight of an extra battery and larger charger, I'd go ahead and convert to a 24volt system now. It's only a matter of time that you will want spot lock.

I had a Bass Tracker 175 and had to upgrade to a higher trolling motor and 24V battery because of the winds. Many times I was fishing at the end of the day and the wind would blow me into rocks or bank. You won't regret more power and power time.

We upgraded our boat from a Tracker 165 (45 pound trolling motor and one battery) to a 175 TXW tournament edition, which has a 70 pound 24V trolling motor. The difference is huge, and I never worry about losing battery power. I recommend that you upgrade, if you dont mind spending the $.

I have a 17ft Aluminum Triton and I agree with 603Country.
Stronger motor to fight the winds in a light boat makes a big difference

If your going to upgrade go 24 volts and get one with spot-loc and be done with it, even if you have to find a used one of Craigslist on Facebook Market place. I picked up a used Terrova 24v 80lb with spot-lock for $600.00. look at it like this most people don't use there boats maybe 10 times a year at best, so there is some good trolling motors with not many hours for sale. I bunch got pulled when the ultera came out and a bunch more will get pulled when the new Garmin and Lowrance trolling motors hit the market which is very soon.
