We are planning a little 5-day getaway to the Austin area to do some swimming, hiking, and of course, carp and catfishing. Our first stop will be Lady Bird Lake, and we’ll stay in a nearby hotel room that night. I’m familiar with LBL and have fished there previously, so no issue there. However, from there we plan to travel to Pace Bend Park, and plan to camp there for the remainder of our trip. Pace Bend is on Lake Travis, so I’m just looking for any and all tips anyone has to offer for Lake Travis. Thanks!

I just got back from Lake Travis and did not get very lucky. I was there last month and stayed in a cabin for two days. Lake Travis is a busy lake. People swam around my lines, plenty of jetskis, and expensive boats zipping around. Bright blue clear water. My best advice is get out early, beat the crowd by fishing during the week as opposed to the weekend! I recommend trying the tributary rivers around the main lake as well. They are less busy, very deep, and hold some big fish! Good luck and tight lines!

Give a man a fish he can eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and you can get rid of him for the entire weekend!

Try the tailrace of some of the Highland Lakes. Had a lot of luck in those areas years past. Buchanan lake close to the dam was a good spot and Inxs Lake state park at the pier was a good spot also.

Use to fish the coves on the east side of the park, near the primitive boat launch area pretty regularly with good luck. Never fished the main lake, always the coves never casting more than 20-30 yards. I don't remember crowds being an issue but I was mostly fishing when I was home from college for the summer or Christmas break so it's very possible I was there during the week most times. Never caught any large carp from Lake Travis but there are plenty of 20+ pound buffalo in there; caught more than one that would've been a lake record if I would have had the motivation to pursue it. Reminds me a lot of Grapevine if you've ever fished that lake.

Thank you everyone for the responses! We ended up having a great trip, and I beat my PB common twice during the trip, despite the 100°+ weather. I posted a thread covering the whole trip + pictures if anyone is interested in the results.

May I ask you, what is "primitive boat launch area"?
I'm not far from the lake (east coast) but not really familiar with it.
Tnx!
