I have bought these for trolling motor batteries for the last 15 years. They always have held up for 4-5 years before needing to be replaced. The Maxx Battery from Walmart has a 2 yr warranty and are about $110.00.

That said I just replaced one that lasted a little over 2 years. First time for that short of a battery life.

What brand/price are you using for trolling motor batteries?

I use the same battery and have been having good luck with them until recently. I found out my onboard battery charger was going out. I replaced it and they charged correctly and work almost like new. The new charger has a battery equalizer program to clean and restore the battery.
You may want to check yours also. Good luck.

Would that be similar to a desulfator?

I have used those in the past to bring older batteries back to life.

Digital chargers go in to a conditioning mode after full charge. I was having some problems with battery number 3. I suspected on board charger. Minn Kota says you should not see any voltage with charger powered up but not hooked up to battery. Mine is reading voltage when not on battery. According to Minn Kota charger is bad but has worked fine for several recharges.
