Can anyone suggest a good inshore coastal area GPS / fishfinder system? Lowrance, Hummingbird or Garmin?
Thanks in advance.

I just got the Garmin 498. It came with coastal mapping preloaded. No problems so far. I had ordered an LMS 480, but it was basically the same cost, not color, and I would have to purchase a $200 Navionics chip on top of that.
Alot of Lowrance fans on this site. I, and people I know, have not had good luck with them in terms of reliability. This is my first Garmin so we will see what happens.
I am sure every reply you will get will claim theirs is the best. Just look for the features you want in your price range and I am sure you will be happy.
Good luck.

Okay, anyone using Lowrance 527C? No, but I have the X25-c and the 332c and love them...

I have the Lowrance 522cigps. I have always used Lowrance with very little trouble. I use the nautipath maps on the coast and they are very good.
Internal GPS antennal stays locked on and the sonar is very clear. This is a color unit and you can download Lowrance's software for free and build you own color tables for the sonar. This makes it a lot better to see in different conditions.
good luck

Thanks.
Sounds like the Lowrance 527Cigps wouldn't be a bad purchase.
Just wanted to make sure I was investing in a good unit.

Does anyone have any experience with the Hummingbird combos? Namely the 317c. Is there a thought out there that combos should be avoided?
Thanks Gyno

KT, I'd save 50 bones and go with the 522. Really no need for the dual frequency on our lakes. Offshore maybe.
