Been sending crooks to the pen for over 35 years. I don't go anywhere without a gun. At LEAST one........ And I don't leave guns in vehicles.
You may carry in your vehicle, aircraft, or watercraft without a LTC in Texas, but: *It must be concealed; *You cannot be otherwise prohibited from possessing it; *You cannot be committing an offense (other than a minor traffic/boating infraction); and *You cannot be a member of a criminal organization.
You're good to go, but take the CRIPS card out of your wallet and leave it at home. Obviously, (because I've actually heard this argued!) you are not in violation carrying it on your person between your boat and your vehicle, or your residence and your vehicle. Whatever you carry, whether stainless or not, it will need extra care. Especially in salt water. I stick mine in a waterproof box with my wallet, badge, and truck keys. I'd recommend perusing Chapter 46 (Weapons) in the Texas Penal Code if you're going to carry. And, like the others have said, just get your LTC. It's easy, and the state dropped the price for the license from $140 to $40. Get it, and help the LTC holders in Texas have a bigger voice in Austin.

Is there any movement in Texas towards an open carry, no LTC required, like in some other states such as New Mexico , Mississippi, and others?
I dont see why Texas has more restrictive gun laws than some other states.

Waaay too many crazies out there now! When police are being disrespected and with such a lack of respect for authority, you need to have a LTC. This isn't the Texas I grew up in, and with so many people coming here from everywhere in the country and out of it, it's like turning on the light and seeing roaches running everywhere!

Even with the 30.07 open carry law. You still have to have a LTC permit. But my advise is. If someone wants to act a fool they are going to shoot the person with the open carry weapon first. If they do not know if I am carrying. My chances of survival increase.

Been approached three times. #1 Fought my way out. (no weapon with me) #2 11:00pm Bank fishing Two guys approached me I was two blocks from the road. (Pulled my 1911 out and walked both of them to the street). Then went home #3 A guy wanted to fish with my gear. I told him NO. So he pulled out at 22 revolver out. and before he could bring it up I had the same 1911 in his forehead. And told him. you will shot me and it will hurt, but you will not live to tell anyone about it.
I have my CHL and I never leave home without it. I pray everyday that I never have to use it. But you have to always train and be as prepared as you can.
Did all this happen in the same place, or same area?

Did all this happen in the same place, or same area? Does it matter? This stuff can happen anywhere, and when they see an opportunity they think they can take it. Since I got my LTC 23 years ago I've become more aware of my surroundings and try not to put myself in a bad situation, but that kind of thing can happen anywhere in what some would call "good neighborhoods."

I try to keep my head on a swivel. The military training that I got years ago has come in handy. I tend to trust most people. But I always have one eye on them. You are correct Jimbo. There are idiots everywhere. people no longer care about other people.

Sirjet, #3 is lucky you let him walk. Good gosh. Fellas, there are far too many idiot's and meth heads. My hubby and I both have our LTC and always carry. Agree. Keep your head on a swivel. Shoot often. Train and practice. Shane, sorry for the derailment darlin. But I think we gave you an answer. Don't mess with a kayaker. We're armed!

if a person would think before they say or do something. they would realize that thinking will result in the best result. I have thought a bunch of things through that has helped me. The older i get the smarter i seem to be getting. Most people that are kayaking are great people. But don't take our kindness for a weakness.

I just retired in December from 28 years law enforcement. I have not strapped on my weapon since Dec. 31. I am SO disheartened by my brother LEOs doing the right thing then finding themselves on the front page of CNN, NBC, FOX, and the like, and then finding themselves in court FOR DOING THE RIGHT THING! ! ! ! ! I never believed I would feel better NOT carrying my weapon, but it is a huge responsibility with serious consequences for me and my family. I now continue to carry my knife clipped to my pocket, and a new custom fixed-blade from Dynamis Alliance. In the days no longer here, we in law enforcement used to say, "It would be better to be judged by 12, than carried by 6." Yeah. . . Today, there is a lot more to it than that.
Of course, I totally understand it can happen anywhere, and anytime. . . Even in the Home Depot Parking Lot. But for me, I will try to avoid the places and times where things are likelier to happen.
GREAT THOUGHTS BY ALL. . . But realize the consequences for you and your family when that bullet leaves that barrel. Also, be very aware that you need to account for every bullet that comes out of the barrel.
SAFE BOATING TO ALL. . .

I appreciate your perspective Jezreel and I thank you for speaking up.
From a simple odds perspective, a gun is much more likely to have a negative effect on your life than saving your life. I realize that these are not equally weighted odds and I don't intend to start a debate... I'm simply acknowledging that your points are well made and often under appreciated. I have my LTC but I do not regularly carry for these reasons.
It's sad to say, but I almost always carry while at Church. Unfortunately, Church is the most vulnerable place that I frequent and highschool is the most vulnerable place that my daughter frequents. These are sad facts.
Saying this, I realize that my "facts" are not the same for everyone and I do not intend to project my reality to others. We are all well within our rights to make our own decisions based upon our life circumstance.
Tight lines!
