My wife and I are going to Rim Shoals Resort on the White River for 5 days next week.
I need to run to my local fishing tackle shop and pick up all the terminal tackle, line and such for ultralight spinning.
What do y'all suggest for the basics this time of year?
Thanks
GOD is good!

Ultralight spinning outfit, waders, small net, small hook, 6 lb. line,1/4 oz. weight and a can of corn. If you can afford it take a guided float trip. It's well worth it. People at the resort can put you on some fish. I went in August last year and June this year. Caught a ton of rainbows. Limit is 5 a day. Guide put us on some Brown Trout. They are catch and release. Caught 16 six of which were over 22 inches. One weighed 6.5 lb. Over 22" is considered trophy fish. Great day of fishing. Enjoy your trip. If you need to know anything else just ask. I had my heart broken before fishing the White using an ultralight with 6 lb line. I'd recommend spooling your reel with 10# braid, with a 8-10' leader of 12# flouro. Tie the leader with an FG knot and you'll never realize you are using heavier line.
Just make sure you know where you are on the river, and what the regulations are. There are several catch and release only areas, and areas where there are bait and hook restrictions (ie. artificial only, barbless hooks, single hook lures, etc.)

6' ultra light with 6 lbs. line. 1/4 oz bell weight with small split shot about 12" above hook. Corn, or night crawlers and marshmellow work better. Especially for big browns. If you want to drift, trout magnets work great. You just need to adjust depth as you float. If they are running water, Rapala Countdown #7 in black and gold.

6lb Berkeley Nanofil (best casting line I've ever used on ultralight) Mepps bullet spinners (we caught them best on pink/rainbow trout, all gold and all silver) If you are taking a small boat, bring about 15' of rope and about 3' of heavy chain so you can drift fish slowly downstream while keeping bow of boat facing upstream. You don't want to achor, we didn't do well while anchored.
You can also use a big split shot and pinch it up about 12-15 inches abouve little trout treble hook. We used Berkeley trout balls and corn and dragged them like little carolina rigs, but we did best with the Mepps spinners
Great place, enjoy your trip

Do an internet search for Zig Jigs. They are made specifically for the white river and catch trout like crazy. Probably to late to order them but you can find them locally along the river. Good luck.

We have always done well drifting Power Eggs on a light Carolina rig. Medium spinning rods in the 7' range. 20 pound braid with 2'-3' fluoro leader. Using 1/8 ounce to 1/4 ounce bullet weights depending on water flow. Always kept multiple egg colors in the boat, as it seems the trout would want different colors at different times of the day.

thanks guys.
ya'll gave me a lot to go find. I ordered Trout Magnets from LeLand's had them shipped to the fish camp. Bought some gold Rapala number 7 countdown cranks at Cabelas recommended by fish camp operator, as well as some jigs and Meps spinners. Plan to be able to rig C rigs as suggested

A little more advice. The mornings is the best time to fish. Be careful. When they start generating power the river will rise about 4 feet real quick. The current will get real strong. They usually do that between 1 and 3 PM. It will stay up until late at night. When the river comes up go sightseeing. The Ranger factory in Flippin gives tours. There's a cave in Bull Shoals.

The yellow or pink Trout Magnets have worked very well for me, drifted under the smallest float you can use and set to travel about a foot off the bottom. When I get tired of drift fishing, I go to Super Dupers in a size large enough to get to the bottom; the gold or copper color with red works best for me. Mepps and Panther Martin spinners will also work, as well as simple marabou jigs. I use 4 lb. green mono and an Okuma 6.6 foot ultralight rod for casting these small lures, and that is sufficient for most of the rainbows you will find.

Got all those bases covered, thanks to everyone who gave tips. I love Arkansas, been on a couple of the lakes, but have never fished the rivers. My oldest daughter and I took a canoe 20 miles on the Buffalo last summer. I have criss crossed Arkansas many times on a duel sport motorcycle. We are real excited about the trip. The cave sounds good!

We were up there July 12-19 and stayed one mile south of the dam. You do not want an ultra light in my opinion due to the great fishing available. My dad caught a 4.5 and I had several over two. We did 8lb pline with a a 2 pound leader. Egg weights work but we found 1/4 to 3/16 drop shot weights worked best. Corn and power bait and have fun. The water is fantastic.
