Sometimes I have fished late and walk to truck and its dark. In this day and age and remote areas we can kayak fish, do carry on your yak?
I have a 400.00 .45 in a retention holster as long as I make sure she is oiled and I keep me vest on I am good to go.
What say you?

I believe it is legal under the castle doctrine, unless otherwise prohibited, even without a CHL or CCL or whatever its called these days.
I have and do sometimes carry on the kayak. I had four meth or coke heads roll up on me in the middle of nowhere once just as I was about to launch. They werent there to fish and took an unnatural and unhealthy interest in me and what I was doing and tried to crowd around me. I barely got away with fast talking and unexpected moves to the kayak and deep water before they made their move. Wasnt carrying that day, but I started being more diligent about it since.
Usually it a stainless .22 magnum revolver, but Im thinking of getting the 9mm sig sauer P365 just for the extra shots and firepower.

I like to kayak fish till late at night and know the feeling of going back to my truck in an empty parking lot in the pitch black at an isolated ramp. Fortunately no one has ever caused any problems but there have been a few times I was a bit worried about it.
I believe that some parks have signs about no firearms.

Catch a good deal on a 9 or 40 new or used aka throw done gun. Disassemble and Hose it down with corrosion x and wipe off the excess. Keep it in a level 2 holster on your person or mont it to the yak. If youre right handed get a lefty holster or visversa if you mount it on the yak: it will make sense when you mount it. Or.... Its no as secure but you can mount a 5/10lb power magnet on the yak and stick it to that. When you get off the water just field strip it and wipe it down again with corrosion x. Some will not agree with this but its what I have done for years and Im satisfied with my experience

I am not licensed to carry, he castle doctrine extends to fishing and I do carry when on overnight camping trips. My understanding is since I am not licensed to carry when I have a handgun with me I can not have it on my person in a holster or pocket of a PFD; it must be stowed away. Similar to when traveling down the highway, it has to be in my center console of my truck. One thing, regardless if you're licensed to carry or not, you can not have a gun on you when on Corp lakes.

Take some time, spend a little money and get your LTC. Jimbo gave you some good advice!

Relying on the Castle Doctrine outside of my primary residence or inside my vehicle would make me very nervous. It only takes a few hours to get a concealed carry permit... A lot less time than you will spend in jail and court if a cop does not agree with your assessment of the Castle Doctrine.

Been approached three times. #1 Fought my way out. (no weapon with me) #2 11:00pm Bank fishing Two guys approached me I was two blocks from the road. (Pulled my 1911 out and walked both of them to the street). Then went home #3 A guy wanted to fish with my gear. I told him NO. So he pulled out at 22 revolver out. and before he could bring it up I had the same 1911 in his forehead. And told him. you will shot me and it will hurt, but you will not live to tell anyone about it.
I have my CHL and I never leave home without it. I pray everyday that I never have to use it. But you have to always train and be as prepared as you can.
