My wife just had cataract surgery in her left eye and in 6 weeks will have second surgery in right eye . She was very scared but after the surgery Tuesday she said it did not hurt as expected . Doctor will prescribe a valium or equivalent to take minutes before surgery , and two eye drops . One is antibiotic and the other is to keep down swelling . Just follow directions given by your doctor and youll be alright . Takes about 6 wks total for each eye . My wife has been wearing glasses since middle school over 50 yrs ago . They said she wont need glasses except maybe some reading glasses . Shes really looking forward to that !

I had it back in 2000. I could not see the small text on the TV screen, could not read Road signs until I was right on them. The Doctor finished with the surgery on the first eye and sent me to a waiting area for his nurse to give me instructions. There was a TV in the waiting area and I could read the small text on the screen. About a month
later he did the second eye. A week later I was in the Drivers License place getting the glasses restriction taken off my license. I told the lady why I was there and she wanted to know how long it had been since the surgery. When I told her one week she said that I would not pass the eye test because it took 6 months. I took the test and read the chart from top to bottom. She said now isnt that amazing .

i had it done a year ago...not only that, i had implants so i can see up close and NOT have to wear reading glasses...granted, long distance is a little bit blurry but i'll see whatever is down there when i get there...Lehmann Eye Surgery/Nacogdoches...Dr. Berg...HIGHLY recommend him...

I had both eyes done about 5-6 years ago. Best thing ever.

The actual surgery takes about 10-15 minutes. Do one eye then do the other two weeks later. One of the two drops you have to use for a few days after each eye burns a little but that's the only down side.

I had worn glasses since I was 16 (about 52 years). My vision is now 20/20 and I do have to wear reading glasses, but what a great trade off!

Nothing to it. The hospital admin procedure and getting prepped takes longer than the surgery. No pain. An hour or so after each surgery I drove home. The down side (if any) is that you have to wear an eye patch at night (sleeping) for a week.

I am going to have to get this done at some point I have cataracts in both eyes but can see fine with glasses. I do have one friend that has had ongoing complications but I think that is pretty rare.

I had both eyes done three years ago. Went from about 20/400 in both eyes to (eventually) 20/20 in my left and 20/15 in my right. I was not a good candidate for the Crystal lens (an "accommodating" lens that can be flexed with the eye muscles to enable focusing on close up vision), so I got fixed lens and need to use reading glasses. After the cataract surgery I had four other surgeries/procedures over the next two years. Two of these were quick, simple and painless blasts from a YAG laser to remove what is called a secondary cataract that often develops after the initial cataract surgery. The third was neither quick or simple - an urgent surgery for a detached retina. I knew I had elevated risk for detachment given my extremely nearsighted vision. Fortunately I lucked into an excellent retina surgeon (you have to get the surgery as soon as symptoms of the detachment take place so no time to research which doc you want). The recovery was a lot worse than the surgery because of the need to keep my head pointed down for 48 hours, followed by a month of sleeping only on one side. She also performed a preventative laser procedure on my other eye to hopefully prevent a detachment there. None of these surgeries/procedures were painful, but there was some extended discomfort with the last procedure as she pressed the instrument against my eye and it seemed like it took a good 15 minutes to complete the job. Bottom line is I am very happy with the outcome and glad I went through all of this.

When the doc warns you about the possibility of a detached retina and describes the symptoms to watch out for, be sure to pay close attention. If it happens to you and you fail to recognize the problem and act quickly you could lose some or all of your vision in the impacted eye.

Both eyes here as well. Zero problems and no glasses, except for "readers".

Need it. Terrified of it. Scared I'll be the one in what ever present that looses vision. I would not be a good blind person.

Do the drops as prescribed and you'll have no problems.

Had it in one eye and about to need it in the other. Surgery was a piece of cake. No pain at all and it took about 36 hours for the vision in that eye to get clear. Doc said it varies from 12 to 48 hours depending on the individual. One thing to think about is what type of vision you want. They can set one eye for close and the other for distance, or both set for general viewing. I did the general viewing in my first one and I can see real good from close up out to about 200 yards. Beyond that it gets a little out of focus. I'm going to have my other eye set for distance to let me see stuff clearly that's way out yonder. Your brain will automatically switch to whichever eye is seeing best and you'll never even notice it happening.
