I am going to South Padre island for one week and I was wondering what type of lures or bait should I use for fishing in the guts early in the morning. Thanks

I would try 3/4 oz Johnson gold spoon. It should be good for redfish, trout, jacks, ladyfish, etc. If it is calm start with a top water lure like a Top Dog. For bait, start with shrimp. If it keeps getting taken off the hook try squid. Once you catch a non-game fish cut it up and use fresh cut bait. There are sharks out there.
