Looking at the Dobyns Chamion 735 or 744 for throwing jigs, I know the 735 is an Xfast. Which one would be better and I�ve heard the 735 feels like a heavy. I�m not around any to go get a feel so seeing what info y�all can give me. Thanks!

What size jigs? 734 Champion is great for 1/2 oz. jigs.

784 extreme is even better, but more expensive, of course.

744 for jigs up to 1/2 oz maybe 3/4. 735 for jigs 3/4 or bigger. 734 is a more parabolic fast action rod and not the best choice for t-rigs or jigs, but rather spinner baits and buzz baits.

I agree with both of the above. Depends on what size you are throwing. If light jigs, the 744 is better heavier jigs, the 735 is better If you want an all around jig rod for everything, good luck. The 784 would probably be your best bet. Hope this helps. Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

I have many Dobyns rods and have sorted out what I prefer. My opinion is that the power rations on Dobyns are a little low compared to some of the other rods out there. In the Champion line the 734 would be good for up to 1/2 oz jigs while the 735 for over 1/2 oz and is especially good with a 3/4 oz jig or ball and chain. I personally prefer the Champion Extreme 745 and 746 models for all my jig apps with the 746 my favorite. The 744 is just too light and I was missing too many on the hook set with heavier wire baits. It may work great with lighter wire baits. The 784 is a neat rod but again I found it a little light for the bigger hook jigs. It is my dedicated senko rod. Good luck in your choice. 'spoon

I also use the Champion Extreme 745 for 3/4 ounce football jigs. It's a really good rod for dragging a jig or Carolina rig and feeling bottom.

When it comes to flipping I prefer a dedicated rod like the 765 FLIP or 766 FLIP. I've done some light pitching with the 745C and to be honest it feels too light for some of the heavier jigs and punch rigs I like to use.

I agree with above ^^^^^. The 734 is the absolute best �all around� rod I have ever owned. Never put it down for Texas Rigged baits or jigs. While rod weights are completely subjective I also agree that Dobyns listed weights(M, M-H, H....) are actually a full size less than they are listed. I do not consider the 734 even close to �heavy� as Dobyns lists it. M-H at best. While I love the 734 I would go 735 if I was often throwing jigs of 3/4oz and bigger regularly. Good news is it�s just us fishermen that think we have to have a different rod for every bait. I remember the old days when one Berkley Lighting Rod in M-H worked for every lure in my tackle box! I appreciate all the advice guys, much thanks. I went the other day to put my hands on some rods and I like the 735 a lot. I also liked the 745 and 746... A LOT. The 746 did feel a little more in the broom stick side but i think the 745 or even 735 for 1/2 to 3/4 applications will work great.

I recently got a Champion XP 734 and it has done great with long casts across deep points dragging football jigs as well as worms. It sounds like there may be better options out there but I personally love my 734 for all things jig/ texas rig.
