Steve Bishop had a new 300R on a 20' Bullet and went 110. Put the same motor on his new 22' Bullet and went 101. https://youtu.be/alSpU8KPzuo Now he has upgraded to the new New 450R. Gonna get REAL!! Not upgrade more like borrowed to due some testing.

Alright... we will bite...
Are there any updates on how this rig ran. This same week we started playing with our rig, 2020 Jaguar and 450R, just before our annual dealer meeting ‘Excellence In Action 2020’. Since this very limited mention there has been no mention of anything short of images shown.
The 450R engine setup is a lot more intense. The engine is the same 4.6 block V8, only Supercharged, and shares the same cowling size as the 200-300 V8 engines. It requires several hours for power steering, steering helm, single engine performance parts, harness and backbone above even a standard 300R. There are fuel flow requirements and more that most standard boat setups won’t have. There are also propeller requirement limitations from Mercury Racing, as to what they allow, to keep the warranty with a Sportmaster gearcase. All that takes into consideration the engine horsepower, torque and surface piercing performance.
We seldom publish numbers on top end and we are most likely we will not at this time. Again, Our rig is the new Jaguar with the 450R and it is a fine ride. Numbers have been posted by those riding, during our public demo day, when they saw 95.5 MPH on Table Rock. We ran it yesterday (8/31/2019) and gave multiple rides to many in our staff at well above 90 GPS, with conditions less than perfect. Our rig also has Bob’s hydraulic, MinnKota 112 and four (4) full sized 31 AGM batteries, a 65 gallon fuel capacity and is not lightened at around 2400 pounds dry weight. Also with a BalZout and Solix on the Bow.
While we have run dozens of propellers, we don’t yet have the perfect combination and while we definitely have hit a milestone, we haven’t yet maximized the potential of those rig and the power. Presently we are turning a 30” Bravo and hitting a digitally recorded 6450 RPM range, and gear ratio is 1:60 on this engine. Mercury engineers also have had their hands on it with us. Availability of 32” Bravo props was short and we have not had a chance to run the one we finally received. They no longer make a 34” Bravo in a production propeller and we are awaiting testing of the 32” standard production prop before we acquire a 34” Lab Finished version. We have run the CNC Clevers and Max Five Racing propellers as recommended by High Performance and we were not comfortable with their handling.
It is well known that the previous Jaguar and 400R could maximize around 90 MPH. We are interested in whether there is more information on the rig mentioned above.

I could put you in touch with the owner of the above rig, Steve Bishop, if you so desired. I’m not sure they ran the 450R very hard on the 21’10” Bullet. I think it was more of a show for pics. I do know on the standard 20 foot Bullet the standard 300R ran 110, and the standard 300R on his 21’10” Bullet has run 101. The 300R on the 21’0” Bullet SST ran 103 at lake X. The 450r pictured is Randy Corson’s, on a 22 Liberator, and it ran 123 on that hull with a 34 Cleaver from signature. If Steve told me right, I think they just stuck the 450R cowling on his Bullet to ruffle some feathers. Pm me if anyone would like a phone number.

Thanks T-Racer,
That’s sort of what we were figuring out on the cowling and especially since there are pics with and without power poles. We could just get a glimpse of the radius engine angle and decided it was not an AMS Verado style midsection. We also know it’s a lot of work and you don’t just switch one out with a 300R.
A 22’ Liberator is a totally different hull with the catamaran style and twin tunnels Vee setup. They are also fairly light in their build structure and not nearly as much rigging as we have. No doubt it would run very well on that hull with some stability from the design.
We are going to visit with another gentleman who as some time on this style setup. We of course are also working through it with Mercury High Performance engaged as well as their prop division and engineering staff. Post Holiday we will crank the numbers up some.

Exactly how fast will your vehicle run? Do you know? No most likely very few of you know exactly where the governed limit is on any vehicle you drive. Speed limits don’t stop most, ability, reasonable thought and risk are the factors that prevent you from finding out.
There are not as many fast boats on the water as there were in the 90’s with those 2.5 liter Mercury Racing blocks. There are many more upper 70’s to lower 80’s MPH Boats than there ever were. Just not as many light weight and overpowered fast boats.
This started with the advent of the 250 XS, and escalated with the standard 250 Pro XS engines. Before those the 250 XB in 2001 model year and the 250 VMax series engines rolled boats in that range and were less popular. The fuel mileage hurt those and the Opti as well as 250 HPDI emerged to open the trend for more volume.
This same argument existed in 1996 when Bassmaster switched to the 250 maximum HP from 150 max. FLW soon followed with changing their higher HP limit, which we believe was 225 at the time, though memory could have that wrong.
Today the horsepower chase above 250 is usually on larger boats and more for creature comfort, hole shot and mid range gains than top end. We sell several 300 engines and the Jaguar usually goes with the 350 and 300 also. Very few get the monster 400 engines.
We don’t see this as a critical factor on speed limits. The sales of these larger engines are growing expansively and most are replacing larger onboard power plants with outboard power. The volume sales growth of engines above 300 has grown over five times in the last five years (5x).
Affordability and resale will regulate much of this.

My buddy had the new 250 v8 on a champion 210 until it started having some issues. Mercury offered him the 300 so he took it. Best decision ever. The boat responds so much better with the 300.
