License expires next week. making sure I have all ducks in order, Over 85, they tell me I MUST HAVE a Birth Certificate, have never had one, Military accepted a Certificate of Age, have been licensed to drive in Texas for better then 15 years. What do I do ? Quit driving ?

note: or a Pass Port, mine was out dated over 20 years ago, then destroyed

just take your old license. it's all you'll need. I go in September.

that's what my wife said. she had all that, and didn't need it. I'll ask again just to make sure.

I had mine renewed last week. They required my old license and another form of ID. I had a current passport. Also had to take a vision test.

You don�t have to be a citizen to get a Tx driver license

Tell them you�re in the country legally and fill out a Refugee Travel Document (Form I-571)

If your current DL has a DD number at the bottom you should be good to go with just another ID

The DD is at the bottom of your DL, it starts DD and is like 20 digits long.

A passport is always good to have with you. If you can dig up a copy of your DD214 from service take that. Also take a copy of your most recent utility bills that have your name and address.
And of course your Social Security card.

Last year my Mom was 85 and her DL expired while she was in the hospital. We wanted to switch her from a DL to a plain ID card.

When you are done don't forget to write letters to your State Rep and State Senator telling them what a mess they have created with their laws and streamlined processes.

My wife and I both renewed in February of this year. We had a file folder of all that shart, birth certificate, ss cards, water bills, etc. Just like Bigbob said, "Let me see your old license" and that was it. Well, she did make us look in the viewer to check our vision. But other than that, it was fine. We got there 20 minutes before they opened and were like 10th in line. Think of your military training, they run this place like basic training. Look around, you will see why. Miscreants and mutants. You will feel like Einstein.

It isn't the state. This is all because of the federal Real ID Act of 2005.

If the state doesn't comply, then after October 1, 2020, Texas DLs would no longer be valid for federally-required ID purposes. That means you wouldn't be able to use your Texas DL as identification to get through airport security.
