Got home from work and realized we had a garden cart we weren't doing anything with. So decide to dismantle it.







The frame itself is 17 wide x 34 long. The PVC is 39 inches wide, which is the widest part of my yak. Probably no support, but may help find that balance point, when we go to load it up. Fun noodles for padding. Hopefully. Cart was rated for a 200 lb capacity. If it doesn't work, I'm only out some time, and about 3 bucks for the noodles and zip ties.

Nothing ventured. Nothing gained. I'll load up the yak on it tomorrow and see if this will fly.

I don't see why that won't work. You'll need a strap to strap the kayak to the cart. If not it'll fall off the cart.

Try it out and see if it works, and that's a good idea as long as the kayak sits flush and doesn't rock from side to side. The kayak probably has a slight V to the hull which the kayak can be made to sit level with a couple of 2x2's one on each side where the blue pool noodle now is, and some pool noodles over the 2x2's.
I would look at lightening it up a bit breaking out the hack saw and cutting off the front portion of that wagon bed just in front of the center brace.
Use those friction type kayak tie down straps, not ratchet straps that tend to distort a kayak if tightened too tight.
I would probably get rid of those pvc extensions and just run the strap around the metal frame of the cart which will be more solid. That pvc pipe will give too much, and whatever you have holding it to the (tie wraps) frame may break loose.
What holds the kayak to the cart is actually the weight of the kayak resting on the cart, and the straps are snugged up just enough to hold the cart in place....What holds the cart from sliding back when you transport the kayak is having the forward strap around a rail or something topside on the kayak that will prevent the strap from slipping rearward locking it in place.

Have you considered leaving all wheels attached so that you do not have to worry about finding a balancing point and do not have lift any weight while transporting it?

Fellas, not gonna call this a success just yet. Needs some tweakin.

Cons: It was a booger bear loading this up by myself. Couldn't get the cinch strap tight enough, and even if I had, thinking a wider strap would be better.

Pro's: It was sure easier to pick up the bow and pull it across our yard, with the weight more evenly displaced.
