Gals and guy,

Guys looking for help to get my CDL, currently have CDLB permit, but keep failing the pre-trip, but I am trying to get my Class A. Anyone, any good ideas or Help. Trying to leave current job and find something a little better to provide for my family.

Thanks

Study, study, study. It is very hard to pass the test now. Took mine several years ago and it wasnt as hard as it is today. I have a class A but only drive a school bus and a bus for our college here. As everywhere else is, we are real short on school bus drivers. None of the new people they hire ever pass theyre cdl test the first try. None. It usually takes them 3 attempts to pass. If they dont after 3 attempts, they have to go through the process over again. Our trainees have to go to Paris or Kilgore. If were unable to get in there, then we have to go to the Dallas area. Just keep studying.

Men are like fish...If we'd learn to keep our mouth shut, we'd stay out of trouble.

Where are you located ? I have a safety director who also helps our drivers pass cdl test, she has walked a couple through that I thought would never pass, that pre trip is a tough one, if you are in the area I would offer her services to you.

Keep studying, that pre-trip leaves a lot left for interpretation. We have 60% of our guys that passed it on the first try, and the rest took at least two more. With the state reducing the number of test facilities we simply quit hiring drivers that were not already licensed with Class A and Haz Mat. It was just not worth it to hire somebody, schedule an appointment for a month down the road, and have them fail it, because the test facilitator tells them "you did everything right, but you did not touch this air line right here". Before you know it, you have 90 days invested in a driver on lost time. Invest your time in the preparation for it, you can do it.

Funny side story, My DOT medical card was up for renewal, and I mentioned to the examiner that it would be nice if they would honor my First Class FAA medical for the CDL also. She sat her pen down and looked me straight in the eye and said, "oh, no sir, you have to be in good shape to drive a truck".
