What lawsuit could be filed? Don't you think the Lake Wood property owners would have filed a suit by now if they could?

Give me $1 million. I'll get two beavers, then I'll pay the local landscapers to drop off their cut branches and those 2 little buck-tooth rodents will have that water backed up in no time.

I personally would not want to be on the receiving end of any law suit being filed reference to the dams. Also I would think declining property values would be one heck of a loss! Not to mention sales tax revenues form local convenience stores who sale gas,ice,beer,sodas,and grocery items. The summer water ski season brings in a lot of revenue to both Comal and Guadalupe counties. Just my two cents.

I think a lot of people are confused about the McQueeny HOA. The Lake McQueeny HOA is homeowners of Las Brisas subdivision which is several miles from the main lake surrounding treasure Island. Around the main lake the property owners formed an association called Friends Of Lake McQueeny. ( FOLM) They collect dues and use the money for things that improve the lake such as Hydrilla removal, etc. Property ownership is not a requirement to join FOLM, any one who cares about the lake can be a member as I once was years ago. Just as I was a member of PLDA, Preserve Lake Dunlap Association. I suspect many of the homeowners in Las Brisas are also members of FOLM.

It is true. PLDA (Preserve Lake Dunlap Asso.) is trying to form a water district where the water front property owners would pay an additional tax (groan) of $6 - $8 a foot of frontage. As much as we don't want another tax, this looks to be the only way we will be able to get the dam back and have our property values returned. When that dam failed, our property value dropped to half or less. I will glady pay the tax for the next 30 years to get my value back! GBRA says it doesn't have the funds or the need to recontruct the dam. PLDA is trying to get Guadalupe county, Comal county, to help contribute also City of New Braunfels.

GBRA uses the Guadalupe as an open pipeline for water out of Canyon Lake. They don't need the dam for water. According to our State legislators this is probably the only way we will ever see a lake again. Don't understand why the state won't help since they appoint the board of GBRA and oversee it.

There are a lot of things to be worked out before it can move forward but they are trying to get it voted on by the property owners in November. There is NO talk from PLDA of making the lake private. The ramp under IH 35 would remain as of now.

This pending lawsuit from McQueeny might just put a screeching halt to all the plans PLDA have put together so far.... don't know where things are going to fall (no pun intended). I don't blame McQueeny owners for filing. I wish that were the answer. We would have done it 2 months ago. We were told at the PLDA meeting in June that the work on the McQueeny gates was stopped not because GBRA halted the work for safety reasons but because the workers walked off after the Dunlap gates failed. Now McQueeny is a ticking time bomb ready to go off at any second.

It's a huge mess. So many people have been affected. Some people don't have water in their wells anymore.

At least Dunlap has a public launch.
I would think most people using that public launch would not mind paying a launch fee to help out!
As for Lake McQueeney, those folks will have to do it on their own!

The ramp is owned and maintained by TXDoT. And TXDoT has already closed ramps around the state due to a lack of funds for maintenance money. It can happen. And with political pressure, TXDoT will bow down t the most powerful group. It has happened and will happen again.

That ramp under I35 is pretty low maintainance, maybe a parking lot, and a few trash cans.
I don't see it going anywhere for a long while, if at all.
It's not an ideal ramp to begin with, in that the current at times makes it hard to launch and retrieve a boat, but even then, the outcry of closing it would make TXDot think twice!

This is the same information posted by myself and now doctorxring. PLDA is not concerned with the public ramp. They are concerned with getting the lake back as is the case with all the residents. Believe what you want, but the lake owners have a lot more to be worried about than whether the ramp under 35 is open or shut. It seems ironic you are concerned that TxDot may close the ramp because of a lack of funds to maintain a ramp on a lake that isn't there when a government subdivision of Texas (GBRA) caused the dam to fail by lack of maintenance and funding. If the folks on Dunlap were so powerful, shouldn't the lake be there now or construction on the dam have begun already?

I was on the lake/river yesterday and now we have 100+ year old cypress trees that are dying. There were probably 10-12 that were already turning brown mid summer.... I am afraid we will see many more before this is over.

I agree with Jimbo, if the lake comes back, and that is a big if, the state would have a hard time closing that ramp due to the demand. It would really help if everyone who fishes the lake call or email the Governor and Lt Governor with their concerns.

I think the 35 ramp now is good only for kayaks and such. Without the dam, just the river flow does not provide high enough water level for trailers.

It's a bad deal alright, and I can't see that you guys wouldn't have some type of legal recourse.
Problem is that if GBRA doesn't have the funds to make good, this thing could be tied up in the courts for a very long time.
I don't like bringing up politics in an open out of Bunker political discussion, but if Congress would drop their stonewalling and get with Trump on an infrastructure bill you guys and everyone else might see some progress in the near future. JMHO!

I personally don�t see the need for federal tax dollars to fund a lake with no real purpose. It�s one thing if it�s built for flood control, but it wasn�t. Obviously you guys that live there feel differently, well then, you guys find a way to pay for it. Lean on your county commissioners, lean on the HOA�s, private funders.

If it was used for generating electricity then that would be it's purpose as part of the power grid which should qualify I would think?
If not, then yes it might be a hard sell.
