Awhile back the Houston Chronicle challenged several of their reporters to live off of Food Stamps for a month. The conclusion was that its difficult to do. The payments average $110 per person per month. That's $440 a month for a family of of four. I eat some meals out and do fast foods for a couple of days each week, but I don't think it would be difficult to feed myself three squares a day on $110. I think I could do it and still have my Sunday night steaks.

How about you?

Nope not on $110 for 30 or 31 days. You can't eat 3 frozen dinners a day for that amount. Maybe live off canned soup.

When I was single my food bill was about 100 a month. Easiest way to save was cut back on meat
and replace it with pasta and rice/vegetable dishes.

I could do it, but would not like it. I believe the program is just one part of a number of programs for people that live the welfare life.

SNAP literally stands for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. It is not meant to be lived off of. It’s meant to supplement low income people and help them buy food.

I'm not low income. I eat what I want when I want. I want my one minute one egg breakfast taco each morning. I haven't done the math but it should come in under a dollar a day. The eggs are a dime a day.

I think letting them starve would be a better option. Maybe then some work would get done.

I've been behind Lone Star Card recipients in check-out lines who eat far better than me and my wife. Not to mention they are also able to purchase items I would consider to not be necessary if one is on welfare. Followed a young couple out of the store one afternoon who got in a Corvette w/ paper tags..... bang

A little help please. How much would the total amount be for a family of 3? Thank you in advance.

Food costs by the pound. Most people I've seen using food stamps are overweight.
