Property taxes in Houston are mind boggling. I don't see how anyone could cost justify retiring there. I'm willing to put up with it why my kids are in school, I view it basically as slightly cheaper than private school. As soon as they graduate I'm gone.

I worked in the property tax field for 46 years. 13 for the government with last job as Chief Appraiser for the Collin Appraisal District. Then "jumped the fence" and represented taxpayers on commercial property for 33 years! Retired from that stuff in March this year. Saved clients millions in taxes each year. Good luck on being a tax consultant! It's stressful and lots of hours. I don't miss it at all. Also, unless your representing your own property, property owned by your employer, are a broker, attorney or appraiser, you will need to be licensed by the State of Texas thru TDLR.

I need to hire one in Alabama. My property tax of $650 a year just insane. Mine is $235 and walking distance to liquor stores. Here is mine, taken from the Zillow website before I purchased it. Keep paying that Texas wealth tax. ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2019/06/full-3327-16375-house.jpg)

Keep paying that Texas wealth tax. You need some trees. Not only pleasing aesthetically, they can help reduce your energy costs, offset your carbon footprint, which is surely huge since you are having such a mansion, and increase your property value all while providing habitat for gods creatures, places for kids to play and oh so much more!

I moved to Texas from Louisiana. Built the same house/ same square footage. Property Taxes are 10X what I paid in Louisiana.
Now you do pay tax on your income in Louisiana but your income goes down some after you retire. Property taxes here go up every year.

They proposed a 7% increase this year. I emailed my protest forms and this letter. They lowered it to 3%
Good morning ECAD! Hope everyone there is having a wonderful day. I have attached the online protest form, my 2019 appraisal and recent sales. We bought this house last year to raise our two beautiful daughters in. We probably over paid a little, but I had to do it to buy my wife the house of her dreams and get my daughters the nicest neighborhood we can afford in lovely Ennis, TX. We are a middle aged middle income family and the increased value in taxes can really be a burden. My youngest daughter Madison really wants a Cutetitos Collectible Mystery Stuffed Animal. Its this cute little animal that rolls up as a burrito. She wants the purple one. But I had to break her heart and let her know that due to the increase in taxes that we will have to pay that she will not be able to get the Cutetito. I have attached recent sales and you will see the average sell prices. I have proposed a modest increase that I believe is fair. If you could find it in your heart to do what you can to reduce the taxes and we can work together to make Madisons dream of getting the purple Cutetito come true. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Mine were frozen when I turned 65. I pay around $2,500 for this. I'd love to downsize but simply not leave my lot.

I filed a protest with DCAD and just finished putting all my carp together. Going in with guns blazing. Go ahead, make my day.

Yeah, but how far to the nearest liquor store? A couple of miles, as I live outside the city limits. But I can buy liquor on Sunday! Actually I buy mine in Tennessee, when I go buy lottery tickets. The price difference there versus the Alabama State Liquor Mafia makes it worth the drive.

So does anyone know how the passage of Senate Bill 2 will affect the proposed 2019 appraisals/taxes?
