It's graduation party season. What's the best advice you ever got? What's the best advice you'd give to a recent graduate?

My granddad told me once I got my first real job that I need to get 10k in savings, put 10% of my paycheck to the 401k, right away, don't even act like you ever had it, you won't miss it, and before you start doing stupid stuff to your vehicles like lifts and sound systems, it better be paid off. All those years later, these were the best things I ever did.

College graduate--forget just about every "political ideology" that any college professor tried to embed in his/her brain. Then, decide exactly what he/she wants to do, and plan out the steps to get there. The quicker a person decides, the faster he/she will achieve.

High school graduate--do NOT listen to any "political ideology" than any college professor tries to embed in his/her brain. Then, get a job, pick a college but make sure you remind professors your are their to learn subjects A, B or C, and NOT be bombarded by political ideology or join the military for 2 years.

Addendum: A college graduate may want to travel for 6 months to a year if "$$$" allows for it, but not the same for a high school graduate. They are still too young to see the globe.

I tell kids today that find their passion then look at the crossroads to that job/career. For example, if they like to cook; they could flip burgers or be a chef-the difference is a little more education and a bigger paycheck. If they like law, they could be a court reporter or a lawyer-the difference, again, is education and a bigger paycheck. But, if at all possible, be your own boss and start your own company. Owners work harder and get the most benefits. My 2nd career I did that and glad I did (private investigation business). (my 1st career was in law enforcement and I would do that again too!)

The only difference between a little girls scream and a warrior's battle cry is the direction your'e running!
