Motor Guide Foot control 24 v 71 lb.

When I push down on the front of the pedal to go one direction it works ok. When I push down on the back of the pedal to go the other way, It locks up and won't move. I can make it move by going to the front then quickly to the back.

I had this happen on an older one and ended up pushing down too hard and broke the cable where it connects to the foot control inside. Don't want that to happen again so give me some thoughts. Whats going on?

Yes, we have probably banged it against rocks and docks getting lures unhung.

Here's what my manual says for that.

The outer tube may be bent and binding against the column.
The bottom bushing or bearing may be out of alignment, broken or dirty.
The steering cable may be kinked; replace the steering cable.

Does this happen only when your foot is on the juice and you're trying to turn, or anytime you try to turn it? If it's only when the power is on, I'd suspect a bent shaft. If it's all the time, I'd think the bearing or the cable.

If your MG is one with the two pulleys (one front, one back) under the foot pedal; check to see if the cable might have jumped off of one of them.
