I bought a 10 ft pelican bass boat and I have a 30 trust trolling motor. It’s seems to be really slow to me but we have 2 guys in the boat over 250 pounds so that doesn’t help. My question is I know someone I can get a 55 pound thrust from them for a reasonable price. Will that make the boat faster? Also what advantages does going to a 55 get me ? Thoughts?

Probably not any noticeable speed upgrade. Depends on what you have now. If yours is very old then a newer one can be more efficient on battery usage. If you want more speed find one of the tiny gas motors and put on the back.

I went from a 30 to a 55 on mine when I had it. Much different. Double the speed probably.

When I had my 8 foot bass raider I ran two trolling motors. A 30 for fishing and a 54 for getting across the lake. The 54 was a little better than the 30 but when I ran them at the same time that thing would almost get on plane. The 30 was on the front and the 54 was on the back. The 54 was powered by a small 12 volt as it did not get much use.

I’d reckon you’d get about 25 more pounds of thrust.

People saying no difference are completely clueless with experience on these boats.

I've had the 8ft model for 7 years now and have always ran a 30#. Recently threw a 55 on it, and doubled the power easy. It hauls [censored] with a 55#. I also have a little Evinrude I'm working on rebuilding to slap on the back. It is one bad machine for small ponds and lakes. I've even had it in the saltwater a few weeks ago and hung a 28" trout and caught 2 limits out of it since the big boat was in the shop.

Anyway, yes. A 55# is a big difference

Double-checked your math, and I concur.
