Few of us headed to PINS for Memorial day. I've been there once and got skunked. any info on conditions and what fish are biting would be greatly appreciated. Just two weeks away. Is it normal to be this excited, or has it just been too long since I fished?

Sorry, i should have included more info.
Reds and specks mainly. don't really have strong enough tackle to pick on sharks. We're planning on camping on the beach for a few days and I'd like to fish some surf-side and wade some bayside also. No boat or yak available at this point.

Check here for reports breakawayusa It looks like the seaweed is REALLY bad on the first 30 miles of beach and the driving conditions are not very good right now, with the only useable line being up by the dunes. The weed makes for difficult fishing in the surf as well. I'm going down there this weekend but chose to stay at Mustang Island SP and fish the bay side instead. I'll try to post more details when I get back.

Yep seaweed is bad but if you luck out and get there on a good day the fishing should be great. if not then go on up to Horrace Caldwell pier and fish

the reds are slamming live finger mullet, and scaled whiting chunks right now, and your best bet for the specks is either Horrace Caldwell, or Bob Hall Pier under the lights with glow jigs.

hope this helps

Catfish, thanks for the 2nd reply. Mullet and whiting sound sound easy enough. Don't know about driving the beach to get to the pier at night, though. Was hoping to stay close to camp after dark (and a few beers). Thanks for the tips.

I gotcha. those glow Jigs should still be great for the specks in the surf if they are there, If you got one of those green lights you can put it out at about 3' deep (hold it down with a rock or a small anchor) let it sit for about 1 hour to attract all the shrimp and baitfish you never know what might show up chasin the bait.

Oh yea, be careful with that whiting I know you said you don't have big enough tackle to take on sharks, but you might hook into some small ones and some stingrays with those whiting chunks
