My Skeeter didn't have a "switch" that you could flip up. It had a magnetic clip that clipped over a stud. If that clip came off the stud, the motor shut down and could not be restarted without the clip back on the stud.. Man Jeff, you sure can act an arse at times.

Ive never heard of a kill switch like (if that makes me a arse Id hate to hear what you think of all the crybabies about mlf fml xyz or whatever the other many names of tourneys series or whatever the heck they are that are constantly complained about on here, or heaven forbid high school tourneys) that my two boats a 84 glastron and a 17 phoenix both have a toggle basically that you put the clip above.

I was just thinking the same thing. Look at all the whining afew years ago when you had to have your trailer inspected. Everyone and their brother were trying to find ways to circumvent having to do that and weren't worried about the condition some of the trailers get towed down the highway were in and the risk they were to others. It is a common sense thing but you are just opening the door for others to push their agendas to the right politician.

Somebody will probably fail a polygraph over this next year. I could easily see forgetting to attach it while practicing

Agreed...and All members of my family know how to operate a kill switch on all of our boats (because the Evinrude is different than the two Mercurys)

I think this might be good for some of the weekend pleasure boaters but most fisherman already believe in using them

I do t understand what is so controversial about this law.

My Skeeter CC doesn't have a switch. You would have to manually hold the button up while driving. This law is to protect innocents from others stupidity, not necessarily to protect the Inuit boat driver that refuses to wear one.

If you don't have a hotfoot, I can see the kill switch in use, you get thrown out of the boat with a hotfoot & your engine goes back to idle.. Another stupid law in my opinion.
A person can still ride a motorcycle without a helmet, but you have to wear a seat belt or use a kill switch. Go figure.

That only impacts the motorcycle rider, a driverless boat can impact 3rd party pretty quick. Not a great comparison

What about the 2nd party?

Looks like I am going to have to change my boating attire. Most of the time I am wearing something that has no place to attach my kill switch. in 30+ years of boat ownership I have never been stopped while the motor is running. This is one of those laws that will just provide fuel for lawsuits. Do all boats have kill switches?

Laws are the only way to attempt to fix stupid. But you can't fix stupid, that's why tickets are still written for not wearing a seat belt.

Motorcycles can have passengers. Use tobacco as your example. Other than sales to kids, the government wants the tax dollars so tobacco sales continue and kill smokers and second hand smoke victims. How many people are hit/killed by unoccupied boats?
