Too much pressure on our lakes , fishing , pleasure and water demand . Like mentioned above very lucky to have been around to fish 50 plus years of my life . One day will sell The Skeeter and purchase something smaller and simpler .

IMO its the proliferation of sand bass eating a lot of the forage. I was there when Joe Pool opened and there was not a sand bass to be found and I could catch 50 bass after work easily. Now not so much. Fork was the same way before the Bar fish and sandies got there. Now much tougher. Ray Roberts same thing, first time I went out there I caught 100 on topwaters it was sick. Now theres millions of sandies and a lot fewer bass. Simple arithmetic really. I think theres just not as many bass around as there used to be.

I often wonder if we have should be as reliant on the Florida strain bass as we have become. They have the growth potential, but they are certainly more finicky at times. Probably just me, but winter fishing seems to get tougher every year. I have a pond that we introduced Florida strain genes into about 5 years ago and I believe with 100% certainty that it has made the winter fishing considerably worse while increasing overall size....Just another factor to consider I guess.

We are actually pretty lucky in Texas I believe. Overall I think TPWD does a pretty good job of managing the bass populations in Texas lakes. I think some lakes like Ray Roberts, Cedar Creek, Tawakoni, Richland Chambers, etc need to get more bass stocking numbers on a yearly basis. They certainly get more pressure than they did a few years back.

Pressure, better equipment, tournament popularity, habitat eradication = less and or better conditioned(smarter if you want to call them that)fish. Having said that, we have caught some really nice fish and have done well in a couple of tournaments this year. Can't really re-live the past but we sure as heck can have fun trying to figure them out in the future.

See you on the lake and have a great day!

I blame it on the high school tournaments.

I think this was a very well thought out post to entice people to point out lakes that are on the up. ;-) (ex. I can't say that I agree, you should hit Eagle Mountain it is on fire!!) By the way EM is NOT on fire.. lol
