...but I cant read the dipstick in my truck. I pull it out after having my truck sit on a level garage floor overnight, wipe it off and put it back in.

When I take it out to read it though I can't see any clear spot where the oil stops, it seems to go all the way up the dipstick to the top, but only along the edge, not the middle. Do I read it from the edge? from the middle? The oil is very clean so it is hard to see. I'm afraid I may have to MUCH oil in there, have much leeway is there? Should I drain some out? Is there another trick to fixing overfilled oil?

If its too full and you start it it could blow some seals that are very expensive in labor to replace . If you think its too full then drain it into a clean pan and be ready with a second pan just in case . I worked with a guy that put 3 gallons of oil in a customers truck once , luckily he didn't start it .

What brand truck and which engine do you have?

Did you change oil in it recently?

With the newer engines many of them use 5W-XX oil, many of them synthetic or synthetis blends, and 5 is very thin.

It is harder to see than the oils we had years ago which were very seldom less than 10W (some 15W and 20W's) but they weren't synthetics so they were easier to see. OMG

I hear of a lot of people that cant read clean oil on a dipstick. Bright sunshine with the sun at your back helps. I never have a problem reading mine. If you suspect it is overfilled then definitely drain some. I have a fumoto valve on mine so it would be easy to just drain a little. If you change you own oil consider one. I go straight in to an empty jug.

Pull the dipstick and leave it out 5 minutes, letting the oil in the tube drain back down. Then check it.
