Rescheduled our vacation to San Luis Pass due to weather and again Mother Nature got us. Headed down Sunday till Wednesday to a rental house on a canal immediately inside the pass past the park. After all this rain, again, I was hoping for some tips as to where to fish. Will have a kayak...should I stick to the bay side or fish the surf down towards Jamaica Beach? Will the freshwater influx affect the fishing in the bay? Tackle suggestions welcomed along with any advice...thanks in advance! fish

I was at the beach (crystal, bolivar, High Island) 3-4 days last week. If you look at a map youll see that the Sabine River runs off into the gulf east of the above mentioned areas. I fished around those areas in the surf a couple days and also on the far west side if the peninsula near Galveston. The salinity was dang near non existent on the east side and so strong on the west side that it was burning my eyes. With that being said, bait was scarce on the east side but not the west side. However, we caught more fish on the east side than the west side. So in regards to where you should fish would be a toss up. I would definitely try different things and try to establish a pattern. I saw several pics from the past few days where folks were catching gar in the surf on the east side of the peninsula. Things are strange right now for sure.

You'll be fine on the bay side in West Galveston Bay, the salinity is fine there. The lower salinity from the flood is affecting Trinity Bay and Galveston Bay proper... not West Galveston Bay, Those are two different Bays. The beach / surf is also very good if you get a nice light north or light SE under 8knots hit the surf with a topwater.. bone one knocker will be fine. Just wrote a huge article on my new member site about fishing the surf. 3 pager.
