Long story short I have a 2015 Toyota Tacoma I am going to be getting rid of in about 6 months and I really want to get another diesel. I had a 7.3 powerstroke before this Tacoma and the 7.3 was awesome to me but now I would like to look at something a bit newer diesel wise. So basically I�m considering 2010 to 2013 ram 2500 6.7 Cummins or a Chevy/GMC duramax or a 6.7 Ford powerstroke. I don�t know much about the duramax diesels but I know a good bit about the Cummins and powerstrokes. I do love fords but those 6.7 powerstrokes are pretty pricey used compared to the other 2 diesels. Let me know if y�all have any experience with these trucks or have any recommendations on any diesel trucks I should look at. I just want something that will be reliable and last me a good amount of time. Thanks guys. Sorry if this topic has been covered before but I am just looking for opinions and information.

Im not your daddy or your momma, but my first recommendation is if you don't have a legit need or use for one do not buy one.

If your going to delete it any of them would be fine (you listed 2010-13 ford didn't start selling the 6.7 till 2011 I would not buy a 6.4 ford)

If you are going to keep it stock I would be looking at all 3 but only the 13+ for the rams as they redid the emissions systems added def and get considerably better mileage than the previous models.

Im biased towards ram and GM and definitely favor the cummins, but believe they are all good truck comparing the 6.7 cummins,duramax and 6.7 power stroke.

Again all of them are likely to have some type of emssions related issues as the emissions systems suck if you don't need one don't tow etc. I wouldn't buy one.

Well that�s the thing, I kinda need one as well as want one again. I help my father pull equipment and pick up stuff across Texas from auctions like cars and pieces of equipment. This Tacoma can�t do any of that without struggling and sucking down some fuel. I�m ready to get another diesel as well because it�s what I love. Thanks for the reply. I meant the 2010 to 2013 rams.

Ford & GM are coming out with a diesel in the 1/2 ton trucks in the 2020 trucks, Ram already has one. Might want to wait till they hit the showrooms. Inline & V-6's, I don't remember which has what. A diesel is not something I need or want. Too expensive to buy, too expensive to operate, too expensive in every area unless you are using it to make your living.

I really like the ride quality and engine of the 2013 Ram 2500. I've spent a lot of time in a 4x4 crew and have gotten as much as 20 mpg at 75mph. Only con I can think of is the tranny shifts pretty rough sometimes and the steering isn't very precise imo (that could be an alignment issue). Don't have any seat time in Fords or Chevy's from those date ranges. I know I wouldn't buy a 6.4l Ford.

I'd buy a cummins all day every day and twice on sunday. If your going to keep it stock '13+ if your going to delete it then it is easier and cheaper to delete a '12 or before.

I have a Cummins and love it, looked at fords a few weeks ago and really like them. Id sport one. the G.M.�s are for flat bill hat wearing posers in flip flops..

Allison trans is hard to beat..

If not I'd get a 6.5 GM

All of them are good in their own respects. I think you�ll be happy with any of them.

The Duramax/Allison combination is hard to beat. Loved my Silverado dually and towing an airstream through the mountains of New Mexico and Colorado was a real joy. The 8� bed was wonderful. Occasionally the ride would remind you about how stiff the suspension was but it never really bothered me much. My biggest worry was distracted drivers floating into my lane around town smacking my big [censored] on the back.

The Cummins is new to me but no complaints. Biggest issue is Ram ride quality. I�d compare it to a lumber wagon. I finally traded my Laramie shortbed in for a Tradesman long bed and in spite of all the gizmos i had in my Laramie, I prefer my tradesman now due to ride quality with the long bed.

I�m not really a Ford guy although I�ll never get rid of my 7.3. I�m bringing it back as my daily driver. The 6.7 I had was a fine combination i just never really liked the rest of the truck.

The fuel mileage in the Silverado and Ram are impressive for big trucks.

I�d rather have a diesel any day over a gasser - just my preference.

Something to consider is what you are towing, and where. Check the Torque curve on all three and see where in the power band you want the torque @. If you want pure grunt Ram and even Ford to an extent. If you have a lead foot then the Duramax might be the ticket for you. Many of the pre emmision guys used Ram for work and Chevy for play. Now that the EPAholes have leveled the playing field it really come down to preference. Just my

Those year models, I would go Cummins 100%. The only weak spot in the Rams are the Transmissions, and that only factors in if you program them, they can't handle real high HP.

The 2011 and 2012 6.7 powerstrokes are good but they have problems with the ceramic ball bearings in the Turbos. that said they are solid trucks.

I wouldn't touch a Duramax. The people they sell them to must have never driven a Ford or Dodge before buying a Duramax.


I drive a 17' 6.7 liter Ford and I love it. I have converted a few Cummins owners to switch to a Powerstroke and I have been told that pulling really heavy loads, the Ford Outperforms the Cummins. I went with a Powerstroke because in that year model the Ford had 100 hp more, which I don't need but its fun to drive.


In the year models you listed Cummins all the way. they are damn fine trucks and will serve you well.

Driven them all. Still prefer the Duramax.... Allison trans with a proven diesel is hard to beat. A proven diesel with weak transmission doesn't make much sense to me. A proven truck with a diesel that had many years of failure doesn't make much sense either.

To be fair.. 2003-2010 Ford body frame, 6.7 Cummins, Allison 1000 transmission. That'd be a tank.

I�ll agree with the 2nd part of you comment, that would be a beast.. motor homes and the m2 do have Cummins and Allison combos, now if we could just get that in a pickup
