Fort Lauderdale Fishing with Top Shot Sportfishing Charter Boat and Capt. Zsak

Beno, Kyam, Lisa and Lieba Shell chartered the Top Shot Sportfishing charter boat team for a private deep sea charter boat sport fishing trip in Fort Lauderdale, FL. As they boarded the boat, they were greeted by Captain Zsak and mate, Dave, from the Top Shot Sportfishing Charter Boat Team. Everyone was looking for good fishing action, and that is what we set out to accomplish.

Fifteen to twenty minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore. If you venture off another of a mile, you would find yourself in 500 ft. of water, which we exclusively have here in Fort Lauderdale, due to Fort Lauderdales extreme drop off. The further north you go, the further the drop off swings off shore.

I headed south of Fort Lauderdale and offshore where there had been some decent fishing action the last couple of days. We got about 4 miles to the southeast and started the day fishing with our best spread of 4 surface lines, which included three Ballyhoos and one surface chugger bait, along with two deep lines with a 3 inch blue spoon and a sea witch with a Bonita strip. As we were trolled south, I moved out deeper and back to shallower water looking for a current edge, a color change and, of course, bait. Flying fish and schools of Ballyhoos are what we look for. Once we marked the bait on the sounder, I started getting bites around 200 ft. of water off of Fort Lauderdale. Everyone took turns catching one Bonita after another they were biting on all the baits from the swimming Ballyhoo on the surface lines to the deep lines with the spoon and the sea witch.

We stopped on a wreck and wanted to try fishing for a Shark. We put a Kingfish head on a 12/0 circle hook with a 2 pound lead, and we sent the bait down to the bottom. We also set up a kite with a couple of baits. After we got a nice slick going from the baits, the bottom rod bent over and started screaming line out. Everyone took turns fighting the Shark, and after a great battle, we caught a Dusky Shark, removed the hooks and released the Shark.

It was now time to head back to the dock. The happy anglers retired into the a/c salon watching the plasma TV and enjoying the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Bar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
