How does Amazon compute and pay out sales taxes? The several websites I read that purported to explain this...didn't.

Oklahoma state sales tax is 4.5%. I paid roughly 8.8% tax on my last few Amazon orders. Where does that other 4.3% go? Understand that the tax Amazon initially shows when you submit your order is "estimated" but what I end up paying is within a few pennies of the "estimated". Whose pocket is getting lined? At 8.8% I'm not really saving myself anything by shopping Amazon.

Fishing, a man knows a serenity of soul and peace of mind that he finds in doing nothing else, and it makes no difference whether or not he catches anything. The mind of a true fisherman is not on petty subjects.

Does OK charge sales tax on shipping costs as well? Some states do.

I don't know the answer to your question. I will say don't forget to factor in fuel when comparing to Amazon. No doubt their prices have gone up and in many cases they are close to retail. That said, you can't hardly make a trip to the nearest walmart without spending 5 dollars in gas and 300 in post traumatic therapy expenses.

I believe it's state and/or city county tax added together in OK. We are incorporated in OK so I have to charge my customers there sales tax. I sent some stuff to Del City and I charged them 9% tax. 4.5 state and 4.5 city/county. Most cities/counties tax % are a little different but avg 8.5-9% added together it seems.

Buy from a local brick and mortar business and you don’t have to worry about it.

Live in a State with no sales tax and you don't have to worry about it either. LOL

Alaska, Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire, and Oregon.

May you be treated the way you treat other people, today and everyday!

I have switched to wal mart online instead of amazon.

2 day shipping out here usually meant 3-4, bought too many items that said 2 day prime then took (in one case) up to 2 weeks, they raised the cost to join/stay a prime member and I can't stream on our satellite internet so too expensive and I am tired of buying chinese krap and making bezos the liberal even more wealthy.

as for tax, city, county, state will all be rolled together.

I always check Amazon / Walmart before decidint which to order from but amazon gets most of my orders.

Walmart has a lot of stuff but there are tons of things that aren't available for shipping and it isn't available for store pickup either.

If it is Sold and shipped by Amazon you pay the tax on it.

If it is Sold by XYZ and shipped from Amazon you do not always pay tax.

If you pay with an Amazon Mastercard you get 5% extra off in the form of a rebate. cheers

I order from Amazon fairly often. I still don't see a separate charge for sales tax on a lot of items. To AndWebb's comment I normally don't order from Amazon for price it is #1 availability an #2 convenience. 2 examples: try to find 6" Rapala electric fillet knife blades or a trailer brake line in Rockwall.
