My bass boat currently has the chrome plated plastic through hull fittings below water level. One cracked over the weekend and I'm going to go ahead and replace all four. Most of the bronze and stainless replacements that I've seen are noted for "above water line only". I understand the problems with electralysis and galvanic corrosion, but looking for input from folks that have chrome plated bronze or stainless through hulls below water level currently and if you've had any issues. If I can find an approved stainless fitting, I'd prefer to go with a brass nut to prevent galling. This would be for use in fresh water only. Any recommendations?

No problem on either, better in every way possible then plastic, if you kept your boat in the saltwater 365 days a year, go with bronsze. Might take a close look at the hoses and make sure they are good and rated for below the waterline..... many manufactures cheap out on this requirement on weekend pleasure boats

Another consideration, StratV: ALWAYS, ALWAYS, use high quality 100% stainless steel hose clamps on any hose connection below the waterline! The $2.50 you save by using a hardware store hose clamp can be very costly down the road. IslandJim

Plastic fittings have no place below the water line. Ask any surveyor.
