My buddy said he would be at my house at 5:30 am for fishing. It is now 6:10 am. Have I waited long enough, not long enough or should I have headed to the lake 30 minutes ago?

5mins without a call he would have had to meet me at the lake and then wait until I was ready to come back to the ramp to get him..... It would also be hard for me to plan another trip with him....LOL Now if had called with info on why I would wait....LOL

5:45 and I was gone. Drove about 40 mins and he texted saying he was on the way. I was about to pull in at the lake. He drove out to where I was. The fishing sucked but it was fun regardless. When I say my buddy he is actually my son-in-law but a friend of mine. They do have a 7 month old and he has been a little sleep deprived. He's a good dude though. I'm till learning this new Hummingbird 859ci DI anyway. Guess I gotta pay my dues to get back to where ai used to be.

There is always the possibility that they were involved in an accident, had a flat tire, car troubles of some other kind, had a medical emergency, or perhaps something worse. I definitely would have been a bit on the worried side until I knew for sure why the tardiness. I would have also expected a call in either direction.
I also think about folks in the cancer ward or burn clinic down at any Hospital or Military folks that gave it all and are no longer with us when stuff like this happens and then remind myself don't sweat the small stuff in life and remember that things could be much much worse in life.
Thanks for sharing the experience and glad your son in law is safe.

With all of us having cell phones it's reasonable to think a buddy would have called ahead and let you know he'd be late. If you told him a specific time to be there then it's irresponsible on his part to be late. Is it rude for the boss not to pay you for the first hour when you weren't there, no. Punctuality is important to making things go smoothly! If he over slept then he'd have to meet me at the ramp unless it was a long trip. If he had an emergency then he should have let you know. I like to be on the water at or before first light and if your not an early bird we can make arrangements so I can pick you up at the ramp once you show up. Personally I'd rather be early than late.

Depends on how much you like this person. I have waited 3 hours on a friend to show up to make a trip before and then I've left after 5 minutes...just depends on my attitude that day and how much i like them.

If you aint' early, you're late. Barring emergency or unforeseen events, it would definitely be difficult to give another invitation.

Reminds me of a buddy I had 40 years ago. Didn't make any difference what time I picked to leave the house (always used my boat) he would be late, so I started telling him I was going to leave 30 minutes earlier than I actually planned to leave, worked great till he found out what I was doing and got mad. I told him I would not do it again but he better be on time or he could catch me on the way to the lake or he could go back home cause I wasn't waiting on him again. Next trip I left the house 2 minutes after I told him and never had to worry about him again.
