I made a bonehead mistake today. I tried a new transomsaver built specifically for Yamahas. It has two sleeves that fit over the trim pistons and a center piece that actually contacts the motor and raises/lowers motor. Unfortunately (I'll simplify and say I was NOT paying attention) as I was trimming down the thing went down crooked. I had to beat it off. NOW one of my trim pistons does NOT rise. The other works fine. Obviously I have to get it fixed, but how bad a problem
do you think it is? Could I get by with a tournament this weekend and fix it later? What do you think it will cost?

If you didn't damage the housing hte trim piston fits in then it should not be real exspensive. But if you did then you are looking at quite a big repair bill unless we can find a use system out there. Just the trim piston repair could be around $300.00. It probably will not work properly until you get it repaired.

Thanks Tommy for the quick response. I'll be bringing it in this week (probably tomorrow morning). Please don't tell my wife I did this to my own boat.

Rockfish,
I'm assuming you have the ProRule TS? After reading your story, I ordered one of these, so I don't make that same mistake.

I am not sure what product you are using, but you need to check out the custom transom saver product from "Lock-n-Haul"! I picked up one of these at the Arlington Tackle Show back in January and love it! It is very simple to use to put on and remove and it will not damage your motor or boat. I will never go back to a traditional transom saver again. This unit also absorbes all of the shock and vibration from normal travel instead of having your lower unit risk potential damage from traditional transom savers! Check out....http//:www.locknhaul.com

I know this does not help your need of repairs, but I really like the Lock-N-Haul unit. You can take a look at this unit at www.lock-n-haul.com.
Good Luck!

I mentioned the lock n haul on another post but it's just a great idea and something you should really take a look at. It works and not expensive.

Hey Rockfish29,

Here is a little about Lock-n-Haul

*One piece device solidly stabilizes the outboard during transport, effectively making it part of the boat and eliminating the stress on the transom and rigging. A TRUE TRANSOM SAVER.

*No clumsy "clips" needed which only take 'some' of the slack out of steering.

*No more paint scuffs, worn out bushings and loose rigging.

*Helps retain the value of your outboards appearance and the rigidity of the rigging.

*No more motor swiveling due to steering not being locked.

*Universal design transom saver allows for quick fitting to any boat and outboard match.

*Works with most motor brands and sizes with standard design hydraulic tilt and trim systems.

*Fixed assembly transom saver with no moving parts to wear out.

*Tough compact transom saver is made from space age materials that will not rust.

I'll be in Fate next week so if you would like to check out one of these PM me and I will set up some time to meet you.
