Ok im real new to this graph stuff so i apologize in advance if i dont use the correct terminology but i need some assistance. i bought a used bass boat to captain for my son to do high school tournaments. The boat came equipped with older lowrance units. The bow has an hds 5 gen 1 that works fine. The console is an hds 8 gen 1. It also has a structure scan box with i assume an lss1 trandsucer. It has another transducer that is in the boat but not installed. Its the type that goes down in the hull of the boat. my hds 8 does not read water temp or depth as it sits. Can the lss1 pick that up or do i need a second transducer to read sonar, depth, and temp? I would like to buy a transom mount instead of the through the hull type if i need a second one but dont know which one to buy. Please help if at all possble. i am lost when it comes to these things.

You can get water temp from the lss-1, but sonar will come from a 2d transducer.

Ok need more help. I installed the 2d transducer, selected that one in settings on the HDS 8, and decided to re run the power and ground to the hds 8 and structure scan, (didnt like the way the previous owner had it run.) Now all of the sudden i have lost GPS on both graphs. I have an HDS 5 up front that i did nothing to. Any help is appreciated.

Make sure both units are running the latest software versions as there is a new one out to address the GPS loss issue. You can check the version the units are currently running on the "About" screen in the setting menu. Updates are available on the Lowrance website. https://downloads.lowrance.com/

When you update the new gps patch, you might have some issues. Post back if you do, I had hell getting my gen 1 to take the update.

Looks like another email to Lowrance. They suggested the regular update first but when I try to load it I do not get an upgrade choice like with the GPS update.

I kept getting a message and my graph would lock up, I had to pull the power plug to turn it off. It was like the graph wouldnt accept the update, but one day I parked the boat in the wide open and turned on the graph and just left it on. Mysteriously all of a sudden it locked onto the satellites and worked. Dangest thing!

UPDATE: I ran into issues on both graphs. They both say they accepted the update, pull the SD card and hit power to reboot. Both graphs still show "GPS Alarm NO FIX". i was at my house and not out on the water when i attempted the updates, but i didnt think that would matter too much. I'm going to download them again onto my SD card and try again. Any tips or advice would be appreciated.

Make sure the units have a clear view of the sky. First time acquiring GPS lock after the update took my units a considerable amount of time. After that they seemed to be back to normal. Go into your settings and make sure each unit's GPS source is set for its internal antenna. Go into the about screen on the units and confirm they are running the new software.
