I won't kill a snake unless he tries to kill me. I have been on a bank fishing and a cotton mouth literally slithered over my foot on his way into the water. I just watched him go, although I never sat on that particular rock again.
I have also encountered a rattler while on a dove hunt. I felt nature's call and was just hunkering down near a mesquite tree when a diamond back decided to announce his presence about 3 ft away from my bared behind. The good news is that I didn't have to worry about pooping anymore. The other news is that snake got a mouth full of bird shot that day.

They are just snakes, trying to make a living like everything else. I bet those who kill snakes run over turtles in the middle of the road. Thanks to people like that before it is all said and done there will be nothing left. I mean really they are snakes, how tall are you? How much do you weigh? They never bother me but I like to pick em up. Some weird thing I guess I got from animal planet. Let em be, I have never heard of some snake coming after someone and intentially tryn to bite them. Yall all know the saying "you knew I was a snake when you picked me up". Live and let live

"Back in the day" Grandpa taught me how to catch em and grandma taught me how to cook em. Tastey In MO during droughts the copperheads would strike anything that moved so we would catch them to protect the milk cows. Times seem to change.

I'm with Brad. Live and let live. If they threaten you or your family then that's anohter story. I like snakes. I see them all the time and they just want to get away. Cut them some slack and let them leave you alone.

Snakes are just curious & also might be lookin for a easy meal.Give um a minnow or shad. You will make a friend for life.I did that one night to a little water snake. The shad was bigger than the snake was.It was amazing to watch that little snake get that big shad into his mouth & finally work it into his belly. But i knew right where it was cause it took about an hour for him to get it down.
Let um live unless they are a threat.

.......its kinda like elk hunting, you carry a rifle for the elk and a 44mag for the bears just incase. now i can hear you now "theres a big difference between a bear and a snake" yeah about six feet and 400 pounds but a snake can kill just as fast as a bear... From the Texas Department of health website. Snake Bite StatisticsAbout 7,000 people are bitten by venomous snakes in the U.S. annually. Only 0.2% (1 out of 500) venomous snake bites result in death On average, 1 to 2 people in Texas die each year from venomous snake bites in Texas. Roughly half of all venomous snake bites are "dry." That is, the snake does not inject venom into the victim. Haven't been able to get statistics on bear attacks that result in fatalities but I'm willing to bet it's a lot higher.

We have bull snakes and garden snakes all over the place. Had one last Friday that climbed up a trellis in front of the windows where I work. Went out and told him that he should stay out in the woods. We never kill these cause they eat the same mouse or rat that would be available to a venemous snake. That nich in the ecosystem is going to be occupied by one or the other. I just prefer the bull snake to a copperhead. ANY venemous snake that I have the ability to terminate will be dispatched. They are a threat that need not be tolerated.

I don't get it. This subject comes up all the time throughout this forum. Aren't folks on here supposed to be naturalists to some extent? Defenders of our resources so that they can continue to be utilized for future generations? Yet everyone wants to kill every snake they see. Grow some cajones, you wusses. I'm all for protecting myself and my family but unless they pose a threat, all snakes get a free pass from me. They all play a vital role in the grand scheme of things and are actually very interesting animals if you put away your brooms and climb down from the chair to observe them and learn a little about them. Lord knows, I feel more threatened by some of you sissy rednecks than from a harmless snake. (That's mainly aimed towards DL). Live and let live! I'm done with the soapbox if anyone needs it. thats a great way to put it, im a snake freak so naturally if i see a snake, i catch it. if it is dangerous, or poses a threat to anyone near by i release it elsewhere, which is the right thing to do. if you are un educated about snakes and you think every snake is a water moccasin, then stomp your feet and they may run. all species will run even when confronted unless it is a moccasin, they are aggressive and will stand their ground someimes. but if you see a snake, dont catch it and cut its head off, it is stupid in my opinion...alright send in the hate messages
