Well for Catfishing IMHO it was circle hooks. Not new I know but for me when I learned about them, they made my fishing way easier and more enjoyable. No more gut hooked fish and the hook themselves, it is great!

The one that has really driven my social media entertainment experience into a tailspin is "goat lake". "Goat anything", really. But "goat lake"

Amazing there is not one post about the 'can't fish without em' item from five years ago ------ power poles. Looks like fishermen who skipped that purchase are putting the $$ to better use with the Ultrex.

Goat Man lives on Goat Island. Many young'un had a game changing event late at night around a campfire listening to Goat Man stories and various cruel pranks playing out. So.......sorry about another tailspin

The ultrex is nice but it is definitely not a "game changer". My motor guide does the same thing minus the spot lock. Technically any new innovation has changed our sport. None being any more or less important than the previous. It all depends on the person. My most important tools are my Revo rockets. I fish shallow and fast so I need a reel I can make a ton of casts with in a given day. One guy may think his graphs are the most important. For another it may be a bait. I can tell you I have been beat by people with far less superior equipment. We have been told we can't compete without the latest and greatest but that is simply not true. My "game changer" was when I got my 2002 skeeter. To some it is inferior, but I promise It has no issue catching fish.

For me, as far as a tool used in bass fishing, it is the Ultrex and it's not even close. Reasons: 1. 40-50% less time with my foot on the pedal 2. Less Fatigue 3. Ability to repeat EXACT casts 4. Lost time from being blown off your spot when retying a knot or taking a break.....I could go on, but those are enough to for me to justify the purchase.
As for technology in general, without GPS, none of the maps and troll motor technology would even exist.

Everything on your bass boat is broken......You just don't know it yet.

The internet/google earth
Technology can be ground breaking, but information/knowledge has more power. I think it is the internet in general. Google Earth, Youtube, TFF. I had to read Bassmasters, Bassin' and Honey Hole to learn when I was a kid, on Saturdays I had to watch Jimmy Houston, Bill Dance, Hank Parker and Bassmasters on TNN. It's much easier to learn nowadays. I have to agree, the Internet is probably the biggest game changer, and the one innovation that is largely taken for granted. In addition to the examples listed by collincounty and cegrace, I can study a lake map in detail from my desktop, in the comfort of my own home, through the Navionics WebApp. I can shop for all my fishing needs without setting foot in a brick-and-mortar store. And I can glean all kinds of information through forums like the TFF, websites like Wired2Fish and BassResource, and publications like Bassmaster which now have a sizeable online content.

under B.A.S.S. ownership, the fishermen were only getting 15-20 hours of TV exposure per year on one channel...FLW was even less.....Bass Pro Tour will give them 850 hours per year on 5 different TV channels plus each individual will get far more exposure as opposed to now where only the top 2-3 in any tournament get any meaningful exposure.... if high school and college fishing continues to grow, the TV audience and revenue to the fishermen should also grow...
.and just like professional golf, that revenue will be shared by the fishermen instead of going in the pockets of a few owners...

I am going to go old school ---- Bass Pro Shops was a "game changer " . When I was in my teens , I couldn't wait for that catalog to come in the mail , I would spend hours going through the pages and seeing what was new , what was available etc.... I would mow as many lawns as I could just to fill out the catalog page with , Manns Jelly worms , Big -O's , hooks , weights , maybe even a spinnerbait or two. The I would give my mom the cash and she would write a check to generate the order . Those 10-14 days to receive the order seemed like an eternity I bought my first baitcaster from them , a Garcia 5000D reel to learn to baitcast ( still have it ) . I believe BPS has done more to promote bass fishing than any one thing
