When all else fails, make another cast.

I did not. It was my first time Bass fishing in a long time. I am not that good in the first place. And having that much extra water had the fish spread out everywhere. But I will give it another shot soon.

Yeah, bass fishing can be challenging in high water. I tend to focused first on steep banks and fish the original shoreline. If this doesn't work... Hunt and peck!

Sirjet, I recently got back into kayak bass fishing. I've done Walnut Creek a few times. I'm no expert, but we can certainly learn together. I'm in Fort Worth, so Joe Pool is fairly close. I've been on Joe Pool quite a few times and can confirm it's a took lake to fish. Welcome to the yaking scene. I look forward to meeting up with you one day.

Jet, I don't recommend that you "learn" to bass fish in these conditions. By all means, head out and enjoy the day... just don't get too invested into learning right now. Bass become unpredictable and spread out in high water. Whatever you learn now will be irrelevant when the water goes down.

Once the water drops to a normal pool, catching bass is all about figuring out their movements... deep channels, main points, secondary points, deep coves, creeks. Once you figure this out, its all about where they are in the water column. Once you figure this out, its all about what they are feeding on.

I love catching a mess of crappie and pound for pound sandbass are really fun to catch.... but bass fishing will get in your head if your head not careful!

Got it. From my experience, the only thing that I do differently out of a kayak is to study lake maps very closely before I go. This way I can pick an area that has deep water nearby, steep banks and hopefully with a channel or two that runs close to the bank.

I use "Boating HD" by Navionics. I paid $10 for the app and have it on my phone and tablet. Its the only app that I have paid more than $0.99 for and it has been well worth the money. It has detailed lake maps of all major and most minor lakes in the US.

Yes, I put in at the dirt launch and paddled up the creek a bit. It was windy and the water was chocolate milk.
