Going to have a major impact on the summer economy for the Comal/Guadalupe counties. Side Note: The dam gate on Lake Wood broke several years ago and the the Lake Bed has been dry since then. I heard that the GBRA did not have the funds to fix it and just left it as is!

yes and the timer is know ticking on mcqeeny, placid and gonzales. i have fished Dunlap many times since the early 80's. it is my go to lake at least 2 times a month. high probability it wont get fixed. if it does it may take private money. The PLDA controls alot of what happens on this lake. we will see. just last month they were petitioning city council to clean up the mats of vegetation from the comal river that sometimes/many times are on the lake. now that sounds a little to much. said they didnt want to sue. dont know what for. seems kind of natural. but I hope it does get fixed. maybe they will be happy to just have the lake back.

Lake Wood has been down for some time now, last year GBRA said it would cost 6-8 million to fix the dam. Of course they said there is no funding available, the Hydro Generators are not working so the lake could not pay for the rebuild for the dam from revenue. But amazingly the GBRA found 6 million dollars last fall to build new offices in New Braunfels

I feel your pain Will. We moved to N.B. in 08 and the lake was on fire for several years, kicking out 25lbs + strings and 8-10 lbs bass were not unusual. Until word got out, it's been pretty tough the last few years, but still had it's days. One of the few places around the South of Austin you could catch a legit 10+ any given day. Sad Day for sure.

Bet the GBRA will get it fixed very fast! Side Note: A lot of those people living on Dunlap and Mcqueeney are going to want some ANSWERS!

The GBRA has alot of explaining to do! Maybe some changes in the GBRA need to be made. Side Note: Lake Wood Dam has not be repaired yet and their gate broke years ago!

Like previously mentioned, lake wood has nothing compared to the $$$ value of real estate that dunlap mcqueeney and placid do. It is a known fact that the dams on the Guadalupe chain of lakes are passed their estimated effective ages. To my knowledge there is no money set aside to repair or replace them. I would be surprised to know that if it could be fixed for a few million that it wouldn't be. The number of owners that have multi million dollar houses that will be worth maybe 50% or less could easily find it in their financial best interests to pool some money together and fix it.

Those that can make lemonade out of lemons will start fishing the river channel of Dunlap out of a kayak, so kayaks will be a hot item in the months to come. The good news is you won't have to worry about jet skies and wake boats!
Just one more cast!

I was wondering about this. Do you know when they were built and what the design life is?

That money pooled by the homeowners would be better spent on a good legal team that would hold some people accountable and ask some hard questions. That's what they all pay taxes for. The river authority probably has to submit an operating budget every year, some of which should be marked for maintenance/repairs. If that's the case they need to find out where the money went, and why there was money for a new office but not dam repair.
