I went out to Boerne Lake today to see what the perch were up to. It was a perfect day on the lake. Overcast skies at dawn that broke out into partly cloudy by the time I left at 11AM. Water temperature was 72F. Wind almost zero early and maybe 5 mph when I left. I found some active fish in various locations from depths of 6 to 15 feet. Fish were in the 7 to 9 inch range. I caught about half of them near the rip rap on the dam. I used Combo Platter #1 with Bait of Champions tipped with a maggot. I caught fish on a quill and on the drop shot. I tried out the SpinShot hook/swivel gadget that Vogey has mentioned. Excellent rig. NO line twist and I did not have one perch take the bait deep on the down rig today. I caught a mix of Coppernose Bluegill and Redbreast. All returned to the lake today to swim again. Overall a lovely morning doing what I like to do most !

Very nice Chris...I forgot to mention in my Fayette report this week that I did not have any fish take the spinshot rig deep either...that makes two trips in a row. Also, real nice pics...

Thanks for your replies guys. It was a great day on the water today at Boerne. Very peaceful. Finally ! A day without wind blowing like a banshee.

Steve -- I like a lot of things about this SpinShot swivel hook. The no-twist. Reducing deep hooking perch. Plus I also like being able to run a lower pound test line below the hook. That way if I get my weight hung and can't jiggle it loose and have to break off I will only loose the weight and not the SpinShot. So far it's all good. I'm going to be using this exclusively on my down rigs unless something crops up that I don't see now. I used a size 4 SpinShot hook today.

Chuck -- From what I've seen that was an excellent catch for bass on Boerne Lake. Good going !!

Love those Bluegill and Redbreast. Good job. woot Kayaked Boerne Lake a couple of times early spring and did very good on bass. The lake was up! I wanted to fish more of the creek channel but the wind played a factor on both times. nuts

Thanks Laker ! I hadnt been there since last year when it was way down. Its brim full now. The Cibilo was running strong at the Ranger Creek crossover too. I caught a bunch of white bass there one time last year on minnows I caught in a cast net before going out. I charted a bunch of fish hanging on a drop off in 35 FOW in passing when going to another spot. A minnow lowered down into them wouldnt last 2 seconds. I didnt have but about a dozen minnows and ran out quickly. They ate cut perch with equal gusto. It was a lot of fun. Not sure if white bass is a good idea for a small lake like Boerne but they are in there. I found no record of TPWD stocking them.

I like Boerne but getting past all the morons camped out on the boat ramp can be a challenge sometimes.
