Due to flooding one more time it's closed. This its the third year in a row. As of this morning it is 12 feet above and they say more water is coming down from the Stephenville area. They are not letting water out because Lake Whitley is.

Have you looked at the water release data? Whitney is 16.18' above full pool and is only releasing 1142 cfs which is not much compared to the 22,400 cfs being released by Granbury. All ramps on Whitney are closed due to flooding.

Water from either Whitney or Waco eventually makes it way to the Houston area. With the flooding in Houston presently not likely any big release of water will happen any time soon I wouldn't think.

Technically not on the Brazos but a tributary(Bosque River). Lake Waco is absolutely feast or famine. Floods every time it rains anymore The Brazos is rolling here through Glen Rose upstream from Whitney but Whitney not releasing much with all the flooding going on where the Brazos goes through just west of Houston. I was wondering about down stream in the Houston area. The one lake that is still open around here had a full parking lot yesterday. It's not that big of a lake. I will have a little advantage that I can go during the week while most of the guy's are working.

We need to have a lake built north the Meridian area to take a load off Lake Waco and one around the Bryan- College Station to help with the Brazos River

I drove to Houston and back yesterday down highway 6. There is water everywhere and the Navasota river is rolling big time. I look for Waco and Whitney to be closed for a while. Maybe the middle of June or so before they are useable.

Just an FYI - When the Brazos River Authority was first founded in 1929, they originally had plans to create over 30 lakes all up and down the Brazos River. Somewhere after WWII the USACOE took over all of the flood control lake building duties and in their infinite wisdom decided that 3 lakes on the main stem of the Brazos was sufficient.

We definitely could use another lake or two. Seems it would be worth it just to save the perpetual Houston flooding, much less everything else...

Then we would all complain about those when they either released water and were empty or held water when they were full. You can�t please us. Whitney is the only CORPS lake on the brazos, it�s doing it�s purpose now, as much as it sucks for recreational folks such as us

Grapevine is the same way. Will be lucky to get it back down by July.

As of this morning Whitney is 17 feet above and Waco is 12 feet above. Form the web it said that whitney is just letting out 1300cfs and Waco is 5 yes 5 cfs. so they must be holding water to help with the problem in the Houston area.

The BRA is releasing from Granbury 27,400 CFS and Whitney is releasing 1300 CFS. Do the math. And YES both Corp owned lakes, Waco and Whitney, are serving one of their purposes by not adding to the huge problem around Houston right now.
